The Ed-Data website is designed to offer educators, policy makers, the Legislature, parents, and the public quick access to timely and comprehensive data about K-12 education in California. The data displayed on Ed-Data primarily comes from the California Department of Education, with the election data being compiled from a variety of sources.
Privacy and use of cookies
The Ed-Data website uses cookies to maintain information about your prior page views so we can provide you easy access to pages you recently viewed. You can refuse cookies or delete cookies from your computer by using any of the widely available methods; however, if you turn your cookie option off, you may not be able to access some of the features in our website.
Ed-Data does not track any personally identifiable information on users of the site. We do collect non-personally identifiable aggregate web analytics to understand how many people are using Ed-Data, such as how users reach the site, the operating systems and browsers used, etc. This information helps us improve the site and does not contain individual user information.
The website uses location data to present results for nearby schools, and this information is not tracked or collected for any other purpose. Users have the option to turn off location in their browsers if they do not want Ed-Data to have access to this information; however, doing so will limit Ed-Data’s ability to provide this feature.

We also maintain an email list to notify interested users when we update the site with new data and occasionally to request feedback from users. Signing up for emails is optional and you can unsubscribe at any time. User emails will not be shared or sold at any time.
Privacy of student data
Data such as student demographics, performance, graduation and dropout rates, chronic absenteeism and suspensions and expulsion data come from the California Department of Department of Education (CDE) and are redacted to protect student privacy in accordance with state and federal privacy policies. The Ed Data Partnership is committed to improving the accessibility of our website. The inclusive, responsive HTML5/CSS3 design of the Ed-Data site separates content and structure so that pages adapt to different usage circ*mstances, from large desktop monitors to smaller devices.
The Ed-Data website was redesigned in 2014 with World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Accessibility Initiative - Accessible Rich Internet Applications (WAI-ARIA) roles. This means that explicit HTML elements are used as ARIA roles in the home page and high-traffic areas of the site. Assistive technologies like screen readers can easily recognize, interpret and re-present elements of a page in an assistive way; for example: navigation (<nav>), article (<article>), footer (<footer>), etc. Some areas like our custom built social sharing and filtering options will be examined for accessibility.
