Ingredients

  • 2 cups yogurt of choice, such as Silk non-dairy (450g)
  • 2/3 cup chocolate hazelnut butter or Healthy Nutella (160g)
  • 1 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract, or omit if using vanilla yogurt
  • just under 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup cacao or cocoa powder (20g)
  • pinch pure stevia OR 1/3 cup sugar or sweetener of choice
  • 1 cup milk of choice (decrease to 2/3 cup if you used a liquid sweetener)
  • optional chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Nutella Frozen Yogurt Recipe: Blend all ingredients except optional chips, or stir extremely well by hand if you must, until completely smooth. (Note: My yogurt was not unsweetened, so if you use unsweetened yogurt you may want to add extra sugar.) If you have an ice cream maker, transfer the blended mixture to the machine and churn according to manufacturer’s directions. Turn off machine and stir in chips if desired. Eat immediately as soft-serve, or freeze half an hour in an airtight container for a firmer texture. (If you don’t have an ice cream machine, you can either freeze the mixture in ice cube trays and then re-blend using a Vita-Mix or thaw and use a food processor. OR simply transfer the blended mixture to an airtight container, freeze, and stir well every hour for 3 hours. The texture won’t be as creamy, but it still does work!) Due to the lack of preservatives, any Nutella frozen yogurt not eaten within a day will need to be thawed for about a 1/2 hour prior to scooping.

Option 2 – Almost Instant Nutella Frozen Yogurt:Throw two frozen (peeled) over-ripe bananas into a blender or food processor with 3-4 tbsp chocolate hazelnut butter and enough yogurt of choice to help with blending (about 2-3 tbsp). Taste, then add a little sweetener of choice if needed.

Does the yogurt give it a tangy flavor? And I’m wondering if almond or coconut milk would work for the milk part. I don’t do that well with milk even if it’s raw! 🙁

If that’s dairy milk you’re talking about, since Katie’s a vegan, all her recipes are already dairy free. I’m guessing since the type of milk isn’t specified here, you can use whatever you like (soy, almond, coconut…)

    Hi Katie!
I absolutely adore your food blog- I have made your recipes countless times for myself and for others, and they never cease to amaze!

I was looking into buying a blender and I know that you use a Vitamix. Which model do you use? I wanted to buy a blender that can make ice cream consistencies very well as well as smoothies, but I wasn’t sure which model to buy. The most expensive versions have the frozen dessert option, but I was wondering if maybe I’d be able to achieve it on a less expensive model? If you have any input (as I know you swear by your Vitamix), it would be GREATLY appreciated! Thank you for being delicious and healthy food to my world! 🙂

Just thought I’d offer you advice to save you some money. I purchased a reconditioned 6300 model with 3 programmed settings for $329, a couple hundred dollars cheaper than brand new, and I cannot tell the difference! All reconditioned models come with a new blender container and work as good as new. I’ve used it at least 200 times since last December and have had no problems with it at all. I must admit that I do not care for the frozen dessert setting (one of the reasons I purchased it), so instead, I make the liquid ice cream mixture in my Vitamix and immediately transfer the contents to my Cuisinart ice cream maker, which I purchased for $40 at Bed Bath and Beyond, and it works very well. The only preset I use regularly is the smoothie setting, which works wonderfully! If you have any questions or need help deciding which Vitamix model to buy, I have had phenomenal assistance from a woman who calls herself “The Blender Lady”. Her name is Lea Ann Savage, and she is a Vitamix demonstrator. She has videos online. You can also contact her by email, and she will send you more information than you will know what to do with! She is the one who recommended that I purchase a reconditioned model. Here’s her contact info: [email protected], http://www.BlenderBuyingHelp.com, cell (321) 961-9219. All the best to you! 🙂
