THESE STEPS ARE ONLY RELEVANT FOR YAPPED 1.10.1 / 1.08
YAPPED 1.10.1 IS ABLE TO EDIT ELDEN RING GAME VERSION 1.04 WITHOUT ISSUE; YAPPED 2.0 IS NOT REQUIRED
WARNING: Please be careful on the internet, fellow Tarnished. Keep in mind that you're installing random programs to mod a game. Installing or using unknown programs can be dangerous if you don't know where things are coming from. If you ever feel leery of a link, or maybe don't know what a website like Github is thenat least learn how to inspect links in your browser before you click them! Safety on the internet for casual modders is very important because it's a relatively targeted audience - there's a reason Nexus Mods includes that Virus Scan information at the top of every mod page!If this warning makes you uncomfortable, please instead stay on the Nexus and install only verifiably safe mods you download from this domain (nexusmods.com)
NOTE: This process involves overwriting data which Yapped uses to mod your game. If two mods edit the same Param files, such as the file SpEffectParam.csv which controls how Talismans work, the two mods are essentially incompatible. For more information, please see the bottom of this page.
(1)Download the Runebear edit of Yapped
(2) Unzip the file. Yapped can be saved in any directory (folder) - it does NOT have to be in the same directory as Elden Ring
(3) Open Yapped.exe
(4) Celebrate! You just took your first step into the wonderful world of modding Elden Ring
(5) Realize Yapped threw an error and that modding is rarely as easy as step-by-step instructions make it seem.
(6) Resolve the error by clicking File (top left of Yapped; on the menu bar) and changing the name of the game to Elden Ring
(7a) Navigate to your Elden Ring install directory. This is typicallyC:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ELDEN RING\Game
(7b) Locate regulation.bin and create a copy of the file. You'll want to save this somewhere in case something goes wrong, as replacing any edited regulation.bin with this original copy will revert any edits that were made and restore your game to vanilla (the base game).
(7c) Download and unzip the new mod want to start using. The regulation.bin file is the most important file, so take note of where you keep it
(8) Go back to Yapped, click File, then select Open
(9) In the window which opens, navigate to where you've saved the new mod's regulation.bin and select the file
(10) Once Yapped opens it, look at the far left column (these rows are called Params). Locate the rows with the names of the Params the mod edits. In the case of my modI changed four: SpEffectParam, ShopLineupParam, EquipParamWeapon, CharaInitParam
(11)For each Param a mod changes, select it on the far left column then on the menu bar select Tools -> Export Data. Repeat this for each Param the mod changes. For my mod, you'd do this step four times on four Params:SpEffectParam, ShopLineupParam, EquipParamWeapon, CharaInitParam
(12) You can verify this step was successful if you go to the directory where you keep Yapped and open the res -> GR -> Data folder. There should be .csv files with the same names as the Params you exported (again taking my mod as an example you'd have four .csv files named SpEffectParam, ShopLineupParam, EquipParamWeapon, CharaInitParam). To ABSOLUTELY ensure the files were made by you, check the timestamp. It should match when you exported the data
(13) Go back to Yapped. Click File, then select Open (or CTRL + O)
(14) Locate and open your regulation.binin the Elden Ring install directory(not your backup; keep that clean)
(15) On the left column of Yapped, locate the same Params you exported in step 11; the names of the .csv files you just created
(16) For each of these Params, choose Tools -> Import Data.
(17) You could also choose Tools -> Mass Import Data. This should work, but if you have other .csv files in your res/GR/Data folder then those will also be imported
(18) Save the changes to your regulation.bin (CTRL + S, or File -> Save) then boot up Elden Ring and enjoy!
For more information, please download and read this PDF to learn how I created my custom Starting Classes.
Keep in mind you can manually change your own game files using Yapped so if you want to "merge" two mods which change the same Param file (.csv files in the Yapped directory) you have to export (steps 8 - 12 above) .csv files for both mods and then manually figure out how each mod changes that Param. You need to figure out which Values for which Rows you'd have to change in Yapped to replicate their mod. You could ask a mod developer for help, but I think you realize at this point you just want to BE a modder! Welcome to the fray, Tarnished.

So real quick, I am merging ERDM with Clever's Moveset Modpack, and i havent seen any guides outside of modifying the regulation.bin file so i figured I'd ask it here. Are there any guides around on how to merge the DCX files in the \mod folder?

Can someone help me lol? I have been at this for 2 hours now trying to merge the berserk armor mod and clever moveset mod and every time I go to import the data from exporting it, I always get an unhandled exception occurred. I have tried merging it both ways (from the armor to moveset and moveset to armor) and I keep getting the same error. If someone can help me with this or has a regulation.bin file with these merged that would be great too!

I know Yapped isn't being developed but I have to know, where am I supposed to put the CSV to import? It says something about a "./<gametype>/data" but that means absolutely nothing when there's no "data" file anywhere in the game files nor on Yapped

The CSV folder changed with each different version of Yapped I think, so idk for you
For me, using Yapped 2.1.4 the path is:
Yapped/Projects/ExampleMod/CSV/ERIf you're having trouble finding it, try exporting a Param and note the time you exported it.
Then, using windows file explorer search INSIDE the Yapped folder (not your whole drive!) for whatever the Param name was. Look for the .csv that matches the timestamp for when you exported the Param, right click "open file location" then note what the path to the file is so you remember how to get there next time.Hope that helps!

The way stats scale and soft caps are changed in theCalcCorrectGraph param.
If you want to learn more about Params, it's all going to be based on community knowledge.
(1) Check out the ?servername? Discord; all the best Elden Ring modders are there!
(2) import names and just clicking around in each Param, exploring to see what rows each Param contains and what fields and values each entry (row) for that Param can change
(3) reading around on the Nexus. If there's a thing you want to change, try an advanced search and put a keyword in to the "description" mod search. Many modders have been generous enough to include explanations on how they changed a thing. If you don't see the explanation in the description, but the mod does something close to what you want then try searching comments (go to the mod's forum link comments since it has a built in search, cmd+f to search through each page of comments is super slow)Hope that helps! Also, I highly recommend using DSMapStudio moving forward. Yapped is no longer supported (supposedly causes "issues" too but I haven't seen any myself and don't know any specific issues. I still use Yapped.)

Is there anyway to merge CSV files? Like if two mods use SpEffect Param.
I wanted to merge Greater Talisman with Universal Convenience but it's one or the other.

When trying to save the regulation bin file after making changes, it throws up an error saying it's being used in another process. When it's only open in Yapped...

The mod author would need to tell you which Params they edit
Well... Technically....
You could Mass Export all Params from a Vanilla, un-edited regulation.bin to get vanilla .csv files, then open the mod's regulation.bin and Mass Export to get the modified .csv files, then use some kind of tool to compare the .csv files and see what the differences are but that's pretty tedious. It is 10000 times easier to ask the modderAs for step 12 the folder structure for Yapped keeps changing with every update. I don't know what the current folder structure looks like, this tutorial is really only applicable for Yapped 1.X not 2.0 and later
