I’ve wanted to create a library of the crochet stitches I use in my pattern designs for a while. And I’ve finally found some time to get started!

Crochet Stitch Library - Jera's Jamboree - crochet, entertainment, self-care (1)

My aim for this crochet stitch library is to share how a stitch is worked and link to my pattern that uses the stitch. It serves as a handy reference guide (for you and me!). You might find a new stitch to try and I’m hoping you’ll find inspiration for when you want to come up with your own design or to modify an existing pattern.

I’m using UK and US crochet terms in my patterns so I’ve included both, along with the abbreviations. When one of my designs uses a combination of stitches, I’ve only linked the pattern to one stitch. I’ve included a photo of the stitch too.

Some stitches have different ways of working them. I am including the ways I have worked with them in this library.

The way I’ve set it out is working through the different stitch heights starting with the shortest and working up to the tallest height. Stitch patterns are also included.

Use the drop down box on the Crochet Stitches to go directly to more information about each stitch.

I’ve included a section at the end for abbreviations that are commonly found in crochet patterns and which I use.

I’ll update this library when I use a new stitch or design a new pattern with an existing crochet stitch.

Is there a stitch you would like me to use in future designs? Please let me know!

Checkered Crochet

The checker is a pattern of stripes with crossed horizontal and vertical lines which form squares. Typically, the checker pattern contains two colours where a single checker (a single square within the check pattern) is surrounded on all four sides by a checker of a different colour.

The unworked yarn is carried across the row.

Tapestry Crochet

Tapestry crochet is a technique where at least two contrasting colour yarns are used together for colourwork in the same row or round.

The yarn that is being used to work the stitches is called the active colour, the yarn that is being carried along the back of the stitches is called the inactive colour.

  • tapestry in the round – worked in a spiral on the right side of the work
  • one-directional flat tapestry crochet – worked in rows in one direction only on the right side of the work
  • two-directional flat tapestry crochet – worked in rows, turning the work where the odd numbered rows are the right side and even numbered rows the wrong side; the crochet pattern graph will be read from right to left for odd numbered rows and left to right for even numbered rows.
