Why we review messages on Airbnb? ›

Communicating or paying outside of Airbnb can put you at risk, so one of the main reasons we analyze messages is to help protect against online fraud. That's why it's so important that you communicate only through the Airbnb message thread until you have a confirmed Airbnb reservation.

We care about the safety of our Hosts and their guests. That's why we're careful when it comes to how everyone communicates with each other. We may review, scan or analyse your messages on Airbnb, as we describe in our Privacy Policy.

Reviews on Airbnb help drive your business and build trust. Reviews and ratings help guests decide if your place is right for them. Better reviews and ratings can lead to more bookings and higher earnings.

Hosts are asked to respond to reservation requests, booking inquiries, and all other messages from guests within 24 hours because quick responses build trust in our hosting community, making it easier for guests to find a place to stay.

We'll block potentially dangerous messages that contain words or numbers that might include contact information or references to other sites, including external links. You can help. If you get a suspicious message, let us know by reporting it or flagging it.

We never review, scan, or analyze your messaging communications to send you third-party marketing messages. We don't sell reviews or analyses of these communications. Did this article help?

For most of the reasons, you'll have the option to block the person from messaging you again.

If hosts don't review a guest on Airbnb, no review will show up on the guest's profile. In this case, the host will have to wait 14 days for the guest's review of them (if the guest chooses to leave one) to appear. If hosts want to see their reviews earlier, they'll have to leave a review for the guest.

Most listings include multiple photos, detailed descriptions and reviews to give you a solid idea of what you're in for. If there aren't many high-quality photos, or there are no reviews, be cautious. It could simply be a brand-new listing and just fine, but it might also be a warning sign.

Your detailed ratings for past stays, as well as your overall category and averaged ratings across stays, can only be read by Hosts when you request or book a stay with them in the future. Categories with positive ratings (4-5) will be displayed with a check mark and negative ratings (1-3) with a warning icon.

You must leave a review if you stay at an Airbnb property—it helps other travelers decide if they want to book with your host or not and also helps provide a more honest experience for everyone involved.

For everyone's security, you should always communicate through Airbnb. We keep your info secure, and we never share your email, even with your Host or guest after you have a confirmed reservation. If anyone sends you a message on Airbnb, you'll get an email notification at the address you used to sign up.

Here are some common reasons why a Host may decline a request: Guest has no reviews or negative reviews. Hosts often rely on a guest's past reviews to gauge reliability and compatibility with their house rules. Special requests that the Host can't accommodate.

The booking guest invites other people to join their reservation. Any guest who accepts is added to the reservation and the group conversation for that trip. Guests can read all the messages—even if they join late. You send messages to everyone in the group conversation.

Note: You can send 25 messages per day or 10 messages per hour. Only you, and not your additional guests, can message Hosts through your message thread.

Each thread contains a number of messages back and forward between you and the guest. There is no option to delete individual messages at all. There is the option to Star and Archive message 'threads' - containing all the messages. Just mouse hover over the message thread to call up these two options Star and Archive.

Reviews 101: The basics

After your trip ends, we'll ask you to write a review and provide star ratings within 14 days. If you went on an Experience, you'll have 30 days. Make sure every review you write is unbiased, relevant, and doesn't violate our content policy so it's not taken down.

Use the Traveling filter to view the messages you send and receive as a guest. The Support filter shows your messages with Airbnb Support.
