Stripe international payments: Fees and available countries (2024)

Stripe is a secure payment processing platform. The online platform has a host of developer tools, making it a top choice for customization.

If you run an international business, it's important to know what countries you can accept payments from. Stripe supports 44 countries and 135 currencies, offering competitive rates for each country.

Does Stripe accept international payments?

Yes, you can receive Stripe international payments - providing that they are from one of the platform’s supported currencies.¹

You should bear in mind that the payer’s bank account will need to be in the same country as their settlement currency for payments to go through.

There are some exceptions to this rule. For example, Stripe accounts in Canada support USD accounts based in Canada.²

With Stripe, you can also choose the payment methods that make the most sense for your business. This can help you expand into the international market.

Once you have a business account with Stripe, you will be able to see the various payment methods available to you. Simply log in and head to the ‘dashboard’ on the Stripe website, then you can select from the options presented.

Each payment method will offer different benefits, so it’s worth getting familiar with them and which countries they are most prominent in.³

💰 Money-saving tip: If you receive payments in a currency that is the same as your bank account’s, Stripe does not perform currency conversion.⁴ With Wise, you can open one Wise account with multiple currencies and link it to Stripe to receive international payments.

    Stripe international fees

The international pricing fees for Stripe are more expensive than domestic fees, but the platform does offer customized packages for various business models.⁷

For every card transaction made through Stripe, there will be a percentage added and a small sum on top of that. For example, a payment from a Visa credit card based in the US will cost 2.9% plus an extra 30¢.

If the payment is from an international card, there will be an extra 1% added a further 1% if there is a currency conversion.

Stripe enforces a minimum and maximum limit for charge amounts, which depends on the currency that the customer pays in.⁸

For instance, the lowest charge amount for USD is $0.50, while for GBP it's £0.30.

Stripe also allows you to offer payment options to your customers in more than 135 currencies to help them avoid conversion fees.⁹

Stripe sets the daily mid-market rate and then takes an extra fee for the exchange you do for those payments made in other currencies.
