Then put a check next to the purchase orders you want to close
At the bottom select “Batch Actions” – “Close Purchase Orders”
At this point you may want to turn your speakers down, because it (very rapidly) closes the selected Purchase Orders one at a time, and dings after each one. I had around 1,400 to delete. It took only a couple of minutes.

You can use the Invoices application to specify multiple purchase orders and their line items on a single invoice. For example, you might have used separate purchase orders to order items from a vendor, and you received all the items in a single shipment with a single invoice from the vendor.
You can associate many purchase orders and create a single bill for them if the purchase orders are issued to the same vendor. Important Note: Purchase orders that are billed together must be associated to the same vendor and all purchase orders that need to be billed must be in Issued status.
