I *think* it is port 80 but this doesn't always work if you have something else there such as Skype - you would need to change the port number eg to 81

I am changing the title of your post to make it easier for people to respond.

Kind of wrong question... Moodle doesn't have a port but the web server that runs it does.

The default for http is 80 and https is 443. The web server can be configured to use other ports but this is a bad plan as they can often be blocked down the line by firewalls.

That's the database port. Unless you changed the defaults setting up MySQL (which you would know about) leave that blank to accept the default (which is 3306 if you are interested)

Howard, since Moodle 2.6 (approximately), this "Port Number" is now a textbox. It used to be a yes/no (or something like that). My guess is that this textbox is going to be a source of questions and problems.

Does it make sense that somehow, and I am not sure how yet, that a note should be added that "leave blank, unless you know what you are doing", or something like that? Or maybe "Optional".

Maybe someone could add the Moodle question marks, for help, next to each line.

I never see that because I always create config.php "by hand" from config-dist.php (frankly, I recommend this as it avoids all sorts of permissions issues).

Having said that, I don't recall it ever being a 'yes/no' option - I don't see how that would make sense. However, I agree, the form could be clearer. Surely, that field should just be filled with the '3306' value by default? I have no idea Moodle in English: Port number for Moodle on Windows | Moodle.org (32)

I never saw that textbox either because I am normally doing an upgrade to my "production" moodle. But over the Christmas break, I installed an experimental moodle 2.6 from scratch, and was puzzled by that "database port" question.

I really don't remember if this was a yes/no, on/off, or something else. I just remembered not knowing how to fill this in, and then someone suggested leaving it blank, which worked.

Well, this is probably not important enough to go back and install an earlier version of moodle, right now. Maybe in the summer I can do some experimenting, if this question persists.

Thanks much.
