Mets Daily Prospect Report, 7/3/24: Win/Loss flip-flop (2024)

Triple-A: Syracuse Mets (50-32)

WORCESTER 16, SYRACUSE 4 (BOX)

After reaching the 50 win plateau, Syracuse lost another one, their third in a row. Dominic Hamel gave up three runs in the first and another two more in the third, but it was a disastrous fifth inning that really did the Mets in. All with two outs, Hamel and Victor Castaneda gave up seven runs on a single, three doubles, a homer, and three walks (not in that order). Syracuse ended up plating a respectable four runs, and if that fifth inning hadn’t happened, the game would’ve been close, but instead, it was a laughter.

ROSTER ALERT: New York Mets recalled RHP Jose Butto from Syracuse Mets.

ROSTER ALERT: RHP Bryce Montes de Oca assigned to Syracuse Mets from Binghamton Rumble Ponies.

ROSTER ALERT: New York Mets optioned LHP Tyler Jay to Syracuse Mets.

Double-A: Binghamton Rumble Ponies (37-37)

HARTFORD 8, BINGHAMTON 7 (BOX)

Binghamton and Hartford traded the lead a few times, but it all came down to the ninth. Kevin Parada doubled to lead off the inning and was replaced by Wyatt Young on the basepaths. After Rowdey Jordan and Jeremiah Jackson made outs, Stanley Consuegra laced a single into left. Wyatt rounded third and came running home but was thrown out at the plate by left fielder Sterlin Thompson. Ballgame.

ROSTER ALERT: New York Mets sent RHP Shintaro Fujinami on a rehab assignment to Binghamton Rumble Ponies.

High-A: Brooklyn Cyclones (36-41)

BROOKLYN 7, HUDSON VALLEY 0 (BOX)

As I said in his Player of the Week profile yesterday, Jonah Tong hit a snag at the beginning of June, but he recovered quite nicely at the end of the month and brought his success into July with five scoreless innings. Ben Simon and Jake Stevenson completed the shutout while the offense did yeoman’s work, scoring seven runs to support their pitchers.

ROSTER ALERT: LHP Ryan Ammons assigned to Brooklyn Cyclones from St. Lucie Mets.

Single-A: St. Lucie Mets (26-51)

ST. LUCIE 5, DAYTONA 1 (BOX)

Jack Wenninger was very solid, allowing just a single run over seven innings. St. Lucie took the lead on a Colin Houck RBI in the first and never looked back. Houck’s fellow 2023 draft prep infielder Boston Baro plated another run in the third, and then the offense came alive in the ninth, loading up the bases and then scoring three more runs.

Rookie: FCL Mets (17-24)

FCL NATIONALS 9, FCL METS 1 (BOX)

ROSTER ALERT: C Carlos Oviedo assigned to FCL Mets from Brooklyn Cyclones.
