For this version of the sport, smaller paintballs and different equipment are typically used. Most people report little or no pain with low-impact paintball, but you will still want to keep your body covered well as even lower-velocity ammo can sting when hitting certain areas of the body.
The pain of being hit is much lower, about 25% compared to standard paintball! The Low Impact paintball markers are significantly smaller and therefore easier for young players to hold. Less compressed air is required to shoot a 50cal paintball, so the air tanks can be much smaller and lighter.
Players use smaller and lighter equipment as well as a 50 caliber paintball which is much smaller than the traditional 68 caliber paintball. This is what makes Low Impact perfect for kids 13 and under as well as for groups that are first time players.
As there is a considerable difference in the sizes of ammunition Airsoft strikes hurt less than Paintball hits. Due to the higher impact rate of paintballs, you will often see professional paintballer wear lightweight armour similar to motorcross armour and always sporting full-face protection.

Low impact paintballs, referred to as . 50 cal, are much smaller, have 25% less mass and are shot at a lower velocity. While this reduces discomfort, it still delivers an intense rush. We always recommend low impact paintball for non-competitive players who want to avoid paintball bruises and welts.
The pain will range from 'similar to being snapped by an elastic band' to 'getting stung by a bee', and the worst you'll get is a small bruise or welt, nothing too dramatic so long as you stick to the rules.
Of course, it can if you are playing in shorts and a tee shirt. Nothing life threatening though. There are areas on the body that hurt worse when hit such as, the neck, fingers, back of the head, inside of your leg and the groin. These areas can be especially painful.
As long as they wear the safety equipment provided (and gloves) they will be fine and love you forever for taking them :o. Its safe and you get protective gear. But honestly, it can really hurt when you get hit and it can leave fairly nasty bruises. Good fun though.
Velocity Paintball Park sets the Low Impact speed at 170-200fps (feet per second), whereas traditional paintball guns are set at 285fps. Slower speeds combined with paintball size allow for fun play with less pain.
The most serious injuries include eye injuries, ear injuries, and even death. Paintball's most common minor injuries include cuts, welts, and bruising. Sprained and twisted ankles also occur, and there are reports of players suffering breathing difficulties after being shot in the throat.
