What is Low Impact Paintball? - Velocity Paintball (2024)

Have you recently heard about low impact paintball? More and more people are starting to choose it over traditional paintball and that’s for a good reason. If you want to find out what’s the difference between the two, then we’re here to shed some light on the topic.

So, what is low impact paintball? Low impact paintball involves using smaller calibre paintballs, so when hit with a paintball, it hurts considerably less, if at all. This makes it perfect for people of all ages, including kids.

Read on to find out what else differentiates low impact and traditional paintball, what the speed of paintballs is and more.

What Is the Difference Between Low Impact Paintball and Regular Paintball?

Low impact paintball, as the name suggests, uses lighter-impact paintballs. These are normally of the size of .50 calibre. This allows for the use of lighter equipment allowing easier movement. Because of the smaller size of the paintballs, the impact is so small that players might not even notice they’ve been hit.

In comparison, traditional paintball uses larger paintballs – normally around .68 calibre. Because of the bigger size, their contact with skin can hurt, so heavier equipment is needed to protect you. Bruises are more commonly seen in traditional paintball.

Does Low Impact Paintball Hurt?

No, provided that the right equipment is used, low impact paintball doesn’t hurt. Players report feeling a small sting, but if you have your body covered, then you shouldn’t feel pain.

Here at Velocity Paintball, we provide overalls for our players, so you can not only look cool but you’ll also be protected.

How Fast Do Low Impact Paintballs Go?

Low impact paintballs can have a speed of 115 to 150 miles per hour (170 to 220 feet per second). However, the exact speed would depend on the equipment that the paintball venue chooses.

This speed, combined with the smaller size of paintballs, ensures that impact and pain are kept to a minimum and the fun to a maximum.
