The "Merciless" variants of weapons and armor in V Rising are the upgraded and enhanced versions of the Copper and Iron gear sets. For example, the Merciless Nightstalker Armor and Merciless Copper Weapons are the enhanced pieces of equipment for Copper. As for Iron, Vampire adventurers can acquire Merciless Iron Weapons and Merciless Hollowfang Armor, which have a higher Gear Score than standard Iron battle gear.
The stronger variants of Copper or Iron armor allow you to take on greater threats, such as elite enemies or bosses. Equipping Merciless versions of powerful weapons or armor will raise your Gear Score, giving you a chance to face stronger bosses from the Blood Altar within your Castle in V Rising. Certain Carriers also have a Gear Score prerequisite, which can be met easily when you use Merciless equipment.
One of the main pieces of Merciless equipment you'll want to make is the Merciless Copper Mace weapon, which can help you harvest Iron or Silver ore veins for important resources.

Rely On Some Luck From Good Drops
The only way to get the Merciless upgrades for Copper and Iron equipment is through random research discoveries or from enemy drops in the wild. The Research Desk allows you to spend 50 sheets of Paper in V Rising to discover a single random Recipe for various items or gear. One of the blueprints you find may be a Merciless Copper or Nightstalker schematic when you spend enough materials.
On the other hand, the Study lets you spend 75 Scrolls to also obtain a single research discovery, giving you a chance to find a Merciless item recipe. Common results from this process are the Merciless Iron or Hollowfang recipes, but this could be after many failed attempts. Keep trying to test your luck and you will likely come across a Merciless blueprint along the way.
The other strategy for finding Merciless recipes is to defeat basic enemy mobs in the slim hope that they drop a rare blueprint at some point. V Blood Carriers have the highest chance of dropping plans for this strong gear, so try to turn your attention to these mobs before any other. Pieces of the completed gear may also drop from these enemies when you destroy them in high numbers during your travels.
As you test the many improvements to combat, check out Farbane Woods for Carrier enemies who may drop Merciless Copper gear. Bosses in Dunley Farmlands have a chance to drop Merciless Iron equipment once beaten as well. As long as you are persistent, you should eventually find blueprints for Merciless gear upgrades in V Rising or simply get the gear from defeated enemies you took the time to defeat.
