Whether you want to grant an app access or configure your firewall protocols, your network’s port numbers are what lets you access different sites and services online.
If you want to find your ports, you’ll first need to know your router IP address. From there, you can check a port number.

What is a port number?
A port number is what is used to identify a specific message when it’s forwarded to your server. Depending on the type of service, it will be associated with one of two different ports: UDP and TCP.
What’s the difference between UDP and TCP ports?
TCP Ports: Short for Transmission Control Protocol, this method establishes a connection before sending the data, generally making it more reliable.
UDP Ports: Short for User Datagram Protocol, this method sends data packets without first establishing a connection, generally making it faster.
Why do you need to know your port number?
Because certain software may use different types of ports, scanning your port numbers can help when setting up firewalls and giving apps certain permissions.
It’s also possible to see multiple ports at any given time for the same application. VPNs, for instance, are known to use multiple ports simultaneously.
All you have to do is type “netstat -a” on Command Prompt and hit the Enter button. This will populate a list of your active TCP connections. The port numbers will be shown after the IP address and the two are separated by a colon.
Send an SMS from your mobile number to 1900 in the format: PORT<Your 10-digit Mobile Number>. You will receive a Unique Porting Code (UPC) via SMS. This code is valid for a limited time, usually 15 days.
While holding the port steady with your non- dominant hand, firmly insert the needle at a 90 degree angle until you feel the end of the needle hit the back of the port. Be careful not to touch the area where the needle will go into the port. D. Carefully release the needle.
Some mobile service providers also allow customers to request a porting code via email. Simply send an email to the designated address provided by the provider, stating your request for the code. Make sure to include your phone number and account details for verification purposes.
To list what services are listening* on a particular port on a device in your environment, run the following commands in a Windows Command Line or a Linux Terminal window on the device the port is on: Windows: netstat -ano | findstr [Port Number]Linux: netstat -ano | grep [Port Number]
Once the mobile port sim request (MNP) is initiated, subscribers will receive an SMS indicating the porting/MNP status and the exact date and time for porting. In case there is a rejection of the UPC request, the reason for the same is shared through SMS.
If you would like to test ports on your computer, use the Windows command prompt and the CMD command netstat -ano. Windows will show you all currently existing network connections via open ports or open, listening ports that are currently not establishing a connection.
Enter "telnet + IP address or hostname + port number" (e.g., telnet www.example.com 1723 or telnet 10.17.xxx.xxx 5000) to run the telnet command in Command Prompt and test the TCP port status. If the port is open, only a cursor will show. If the port is closed, a message will say Connect failed.
Both the ping command and nslookup command are options for finding the IP address of a website. However, the simplest way to determine the IP address of a website is through the DNS lookup tool. Go to the DNS lookup tool, type the website URL into the text entry, and click Lookup.
Number porting is the process of taking an existing phone number and transferring it to another provider. There are two methods of number porting you'll want to be aware of. The first is local number porting. The second is full mobile number porting.
