Kindles and other e-readers are nothing if not convenient, allowing you to save money on great reads and take tons of books on holiday in one little device. According to Early Bird Books, an 8GB Kindle can hold at least 3,100 books, and with 32GB you'd be able to store over 15,100!
While you can take advantage of this by downloading every novel you can like the look of, a study by CCleaner found that decluttering your digital devices by removing things you don't need makes users feel more productive and organised.
If you're doing some housekeeping so it's easier to find your favourite novels or because you want to make space for new books, follow these simple steps to delete books from your Kindle.
How to remove a book from your Kindle device
Removing files you no longer need makes it easier to find your next read. It’s simple, and only takes a few taps. Here’s how:
- Turn on your Kindle and, from the main screen, swipe to find the cover of the book you want to remove.
- Press and hold the image of the cover and then select 'Remove from Device' from the menu that appears.
How to delete a book from your Kindle Library
While the above steps remove the book from your Kindle itself, it will still remain in your Kindle Library and can be re-downloaded onto your Kindle or Kindle app in seconds.
To remove the book from your Kindle library permanently, here's what to do:
- Open the Amazon website on a smartphone, tablet or laptop and log-in (Note: this won’t work if you're using the Amazon app).
- On a laptop or desktop computer, click ‘Account & Lists’, which appears on the right of the search box, and select ‘Manage your content and devices’. On a smartphone or tablet, instead click the three lines in the top left corner, followed by Account, then ‘Content and devices’.
- To delete a single book, tap or click the three dots to the left of its name, then tap or click Delete.
- To delete multiple books, tap or click the checkboxes beside each one. On a computer, click the Delete button at the top of the screen. On a smartphone or tablet, once you’ve selected the books using the checkboxes, tap the three vertical dots above the book list, followed by Delete.
- You’ll be warned this will delete the book from your Kindle library permanently. Press 'Yes, Delete permanently' and the book will be removed from your library.
