What changes you need to notify the DWP about when claiming PIP
When you claim PIP, you will need to inform the DWP of any changes to your condition or personal circ*mstances. Some examples include:
- Your condition improves or deteriorates
- The level of help or care you need has changed
- You go into hospital or a care home for more than 28 days
- You leave the country for more than 13 weeks
- Your details have changed, e.g. your name, address
- You have changed your doctor
- Your registered bank details have changed
- You have been sent to or leave prison or legal custody.

Several changes can affect your PIP. If you’re unsure if a change to your circ*mstances affects your PIP, you should inform the DWP.
What changes you don’t need to notify the DWP about when claiming PIP
Some changes don’t need reporting to the DWP as they won’t affect how much PIP you will receive or how you receive it:
- Changes in your employability.
- Changes in your earnings or other income.
- If there is a change in the number of people living at your address.
How to contact the DWP to report a change when claiming PIP
It is your responsibility to notify the DWP of any changes in your circ*mstances that may affect your PIP claim - you can call or write to report the change.
Note:
If you have changed your name, you will need to notify the DWP in writing.
When reporting changes in your PIP, you will need to include the following details:
- Full name
- Date of birth
- National insurance number
- The date the change happened
- The circ*mstance that has changed
