Is Google forcing 2 step verification? ›

Google has announced it will be enforcing two-step verification (2SV) for admin accounts across Google Workspace. For some users, the requirement is already being enforced, with others to follow.

Signing in with both a password and a second step on your phone protects against password-stealing scams. Even if someone gets your password online, they won't also have your phone.

Manage your Google Account.

At the top, tap Security. Under "How you sign in to Google," tap 2-Step Verification. You might need to sign in. Tap Turn off.

Open your Google Account. In the "Security" section, select 2-Step Verification. You might need to sign in. Select Turn off.

To help protect you from abuse, we sometimes ask you to prove you're not a robot before you can create or sign in to your account. This extra confirmation by phone helps keep spammers from abusing our systems. Tip: To verify your account, you need a mobile device.

You might be asked to sign in with 2-Step Verification, even though you checked the box next to "Don't ask again on this computer." Usually this is because your browser, like Chrome or Firefox, doesn't have cookies enabled or is set to delete cookies after a certain period of time.

With 2-Step Verification, also called two-factor authentication, you can add an extra layer of security to your account in case your password is stolen.

Note: If you sign in to your Google Account on any eligible phone, Google prompts is added as a method for 2-Step Verification automatically. Please also enable additional verification methods.

Under Users, click the user's name (blue letters). Click Security on the right side options. Note: If a user is suspended you will not be able to turn it off, in that case temporarily lift the suspension and turn of 2 step verification.

Those of you that use a Gmail account for this purpose need to pay special attention as Gmail will be turning on and REQUIRING two-factor authentication for all of their email accounts by May of 2022. This means that two-factor on your account can be turned on at any time.

Sign in to the Admin Console. Go to Security > Authentication > 2 step verification. Select the new organizational unit. Uncheck the box beside Allow users to have access to the 2 step verification.
