What is ERP in Singapore?

ERP is a system used to manage traffic congestions in the city-state. The rate and operating hours are reviewed regularly by the LTA to keep traffic moving at an optimal speed.

You can check the latest ERP rate and time periods at the OneMotoring website.

Are there ERP charges on Sunday and public holidays?

According to OneMotoring, there are no ERP charges for Sundays and public holidays. "ERP also stops operating at 1pm on the eve of New Year's Day, Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Puasa, Deepavali and Christmas."

How to pay for ERP in Singapore?

Drivers pay a fee when driving through an ERP gantry during its operational hours. The system was designed to work with a contactless payment card installed in vehicles.

That payment card is slotted into an In-Vehicle Unit (IU) that must be installed in every Singapore-registered vehicle. If you don't have an IU on your vehicle, there is a penalty of S$70 for each operating ERP gantry that you drive through.

There are two modes of ERP payment:

1. Backend payment services

This mode of payment means you don't have to worry about topping up a stored-value card each time. You just have to sign up for a EZ-Link Motoring Service or Virtual Cashcard account and enjoy the convenience of paying your ERP fees via credit or debit card.

2. A stored-value card inserted into your IU

The ERP fee is immediately deducted from the card, so ensure that your card (e.g. NETS CashCard or CEPAS Card) has sufficient value.

What are the penalties for not paying the ERP fee?

If you miss an ERP payment, you will receive a notification within a few days after the violation and you can check it online via digital services.

You will have to pay the outstanding ERP charge and a S$10 administrative fee within two weeks after receiving the notification.

You can save S$2 by paying for your violation through these channels:

If you miss the two-week deadline, the authority will send you Notice of Traffic Offence (NTO) and you'll have to pay a S$70 fine.

Failing to pay the fine more than 28 days after the notification, LTA will bring you to court.

How to avoid an ERP fine?

The best way to avoid an ERP fine is to always make sure that you have sufficient fund in the stored-value card. It is recommended for drivers to sign up for backend payment services so you don't have to worry about topping up.

You also have to make sure that the IU in your vehicle is working properly. You can check your vehicle's IU condition regularly at authorised IU service centres.

Do foreign-registered vehicles need to pay for ERP?

Foreign-registered car drivers can opt to pay a flat fee of S$5 each day to drive through operating ERP gantries. This will be deducted from their autopass when they depart Singapore.

They can also install an IU or rent a temporary detachable one at Woodland or Tuas checkpoint. Installation costs S$155.80 at LTA Authorised Inspection Centres, while the rental fee is S$5.15 per day. Drivers must also pay a refundable deposit of S$124.65.

Foreign-registered motorcycles have to install or rent a temporary detachable IU.
