Do military get priority boarding on American Airlines? ›

Offering active-duty military priority boarding. Complimentary access to Admirals Club® lounge locations to current U.S. military personnel in uniform during the day of travel on an American Airlines-operated flight, when space is available.

Group 5 is not priority boarding on American Airlines, but Preferred boarding. This group includes passengers that pay for Main Cabin Extra perks, as well as those who hold co-branded AAdvantage airline credit cards.

You cannot qualify for ConciergeKey with a specific amount of flying or a published amount of spending. Over $50,000 has historically been enough – at least buying a $50,000 'AAirpass' of prepaid travel would come with the status.

Veterans who are rated by the VA as permanently and totally disabled can travel Space-A (space available) on military aircraft for free. If you qualify you can travel in the continental United States (CONUS) or directly between CONUS and Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam and American Samoa.

Earn elite status

Gold status, American Airlines's lowest elite tier, requires 40,000 Loyalty Points to achieve and will give you Group 4 boarding, no matter which fare class you buy. American's highest elite tier is Executive Platinum and requires 200,000 Loyalty Points.

Get onboard early.

When it's time to fly, listen closely to the announcements at the gate. Our gate agent will offer active members of the military the opportunity to board the flight early. Stow your bags before most guests and settle into your seat to relax.

However, even in general boarding, there are clear queues: Group 5 (Preferred Boarding): Passengers in Main Cabin Extra seats (not on Basic Economy tickets), AAdvantage members who accrue 15,000 Loyalty Points (milestone benefit), and select AAdvantage co-brand card holders. Group 6: General AAdvantage status holders.

Upon earning one million (1,000,000) Million Miler™ miles, AAdvantage® members will be vested with AAdvantage Gold® status for the lifetime of the AAdvantage Gold® program and 35,000 AAdvantage® bonus miles. AAdvantage® bonus miles do not count toward qualifying for AAdvantage® status or the Million Miler™ program.

American Airlines Concierge Key

American Airlines' Concierge Key is an elite status program for top-tier customers who spend at least $50,000 a year and fly over 200,000 miles (though these aren't hard-and-fast requirements).

Is concierge key a big deal? ›

Concierge Key is American Airlines' invitation-only elite status. It gives you priority over Executive Platinum members for just about everything, lounge access, extra systemwide upgrades, and also (hopefully) proactive help in the event of irregular operations.

Priority boarding

Active military members can board with our pre-boarding group.

Boarding. We welcome active duty military with ID to board the plane in Group 1 along with our customers in First.

Groups 1 through 4 (as well as ConciergeKey) are considered Priority boarding. These tend to be folks with American Airlines elite status, those with Premium Economy or above, and certain corporate travelers. Group 5 is considered Preferred boarding.
