1. How much foot traffic should I expect at my store?
Foot traffic varies broadly from one location to the next depending on a host of factors including (1) population density, (2) Locker location, (3) hours of operation and Locker availability, and (4) time of year. That said, 350 visitors per month is a broad average we use. And our highest performing Lockers see up to 1,500 unique visits each month. That’s a lot of traffic!
2. Will I be compensated financially for hosting a Locker?
There is no cash compensation offered for hosting a Locker. The benefit of additional foot traffic, sales conversion, and exposure on Amazon.com is a far greater value than the rent Amazon would be able to provide.
3. Why won’t Amazon compensate me for hosting a Locker?
These Lockers are provided to retail hosts at no cost, but they are manufactured, shipped, installed, and maintained at considerable cost to Amazon. In most cases, Amazon is even covering the cost of electrical prep work on site. While other automated vending options like ATMs, vending machines, Redbox/Coinstar, etc. provide direct revenue opportunities for retailers, these options are primarily reactive in their ability to generate new business for you. Which is to say: people might use the ATM or the vending machine while they’re already in the store, but they generally won’t choose to visit your store because there’s a vending machine there. With the Lockers, we’re giving 300+ consumers a reason to visit your store each month. That traffic is far more valuable than a few dollars a month rent, and THAT is why 8,000+ retailers have chosen to partner with Amazon Locker.
4. Why does Amazon require 7 day a week access to Host?
Because our customers want to receive their packages 7 days/wk and we need to be able to deliver to them 7 days/wk. Lockers are a core part of Amazon’s broader strategy to achieve 2-day, 1-day or even same-day delivery for as many customers and as many products as possible. This is a benefit for our hosts in that it means Amazon will be working intentionally to direct more and more customers to ship packages to the host’s Locker. But it also means carriers and customers need to have access to the Locker 7 days per week.
5. Do I have to provide internet access to the Locker?
No. Our retail Lockers come equipped with a cellular modem that allows us to send and receive the data we need from the Locker.
6. When will installation occur?
It generally takes 4-6 weeks post contract approval.
7. Do I need to increase my insurance policy to Host an Amazon Locker?
No. Amazon owns the Locker and carries insurance to cover both the Locker and the host from any liability. No insurance is required from the host.
8. If I sell my store to a different party, what happens to the Locker?
The buyer of the location would need to confirm that they are willing to agree and operate under the terms of Amazon’s Location Agreement. If they are, we would then request a W9 from the new owner and would go to Amazon’s legal team to request a ‘transfer of ownership’ where they would establish the new owner as a party to the agreement. If the purchasing party cannot agree to our terms, the Locker would then be removed.
9. How long am I expected to host a Locker?
A minimum of one year. The initial contract you will sign has a one year term. After that, it renews automatically on a month-to-month basis until either party decides to terminate it. If, after the first year, you decide you don’t want the Locker anymore, you can simply give notice, and we’ll schedule a time to come remove it. If you decide you want to cancel during the first year, you can do that as well, but you would be subject to early termination fees (typically between $500 – $1,000).
