Knowing all of Ditto’s disguises in Pokémon GO during November 2023 can significantly improve your odds of encountering the elusive creature, simply due to the fact that you will know where to look. The classic and strange Generation 1 Pokémon is present in the popular mobile catching game, but it does not appear in its regular form. Instead, Ditto lives up to its shapeshifting reputation and actually hides behind disguises of certain Pokémon. You will only know you have captured a Ditto after successfully capturing one of the creatures it uses as a disguise, as a message will appear indicating that it was a trick.
So far, only one other Pokémon shares a similar mechanic with Ditto. Catching Zorua in Pokémon GO works similarly in the sense that it also disguises itself. Zorua, however, always disguises itself as the Pokémon you carry around as your buddy. As such, if you have a Shiny Groudon with you, a Shiny Groudon will appear on the map – which is a great way of knowing a Zorua is around because Shiny Groudon do not simply spawn. Ditto, on the other hand, uses the guise of common Pokémon, though the list of creatures tends to change every so often, so it is best to be up-to-date.

All Pokémon That Can Be Ditto In Pokémon GO
Ditto tends to disguise itself with the looks of regular Pokémon that often appear in the game, especially outside of event periods and such. Common creatures like Paras, Spinarak, Numel, and Bidoof have all been used as camouflage for Ditto in the past. Nevertheless, the creature updated its list of preferred disguises in March 2023, when the special Team GO Rocket Takeover was held. For those that are attuned to the mobile game’s updates, the Ditto disguises in Pokémon GO during October 2023 have not changed, which means that last month’s creatures are still what Ditto uses to hide.
This also means that the Gen 1 Pokémon that Ditto uses as a guise are still Diglett and Grimer. Gen 2 only has one creature that Ditto uses as a disguise and that is Snubbull. Corphish is the only Gen 3 Pokémon that Ditto hides behind, while Starly is the only Gen 4 creature used by the shapeshifter. There are two Pokémon in Gen 5 that can be Ditto when encountered in Pokémon GO: Roggenrola and Tympole. The last creature that can be Ditto is Litleo, from Gen 6. You can check all of Ditto’s disguises, organized by Generation, in the table below:
All Ditto Disguises | |
---|---|
Pokémon | Generation |
Diglett | Gen 1 |
Grimer | Gen 1 |
Snubbull | Gen 2 |
Corphish | Gen 3 |
Starly | Gen 4 |
Roggenrola | Gen 5 |
Tympole | Gen 5 |
Litleo | Gen 6 |
How To Find More Ditto In Pokémon GO
You can increase your chances of finding Ditto in Pokémon GO by boosting your base chance of encountering the aforementioned creatures. According to Game Rant, Ditto has a 1 in 50 chance of spawning under the guise of another Pokémon. To improve the odds of finding one, you need to target the guises, as one can be Ditto.
This can be done through simple methods, such as using Lure Module on nearby PokéStops and Gyms that you will remain close to for a while. Additionally, you can also cast an Incense on yourself, as this will trigger the spawn of more Pokémon, which can be the ones used by Ditto.
Don’t forget to use your Daily Adventure Incense. The only requirement for this to work is that you move around to trigger more spawns. The item can be activated from the regular map page rather than in the inventory.
Ditto can also occasionally be found by completing special research tasks and research breakthroughs in Pokémon GO. It is, however, currently uncertain if the Gen 1 creature will be featured as a reward for the completion of these quests in November 2023. Even if you cannot encounter the shapeshifter through tasks during the upcoming month, you should know this for further reference, as Ditto may eventually be put in the spotlight, thus increasing your odds of finding it.
How To Find Shiny Ditto In Pokémon GO
The good news is that Shiny Ditto in Pokémon GO has a greatly improved Shiny rate, especially when compared to other Pokémon. While regular creatures have a 1 in 500 chance of being Shiny when encountered in the wild, Ditto has a 1 in 64 Shiny Rate, according to an approximated calculation by The Silph Road (via Wayback Machine). This means it has a much better chance of coming in its alternate blue coloring. The issue with this is that finding Ditto alone is already difficult, so you need to stack up the odds of finding it among its disguises and then add the Shiny rate as a modifier.
If you encounter any of Ditto’s disguises as Shiny, such as a Shiny Snubbull, that Pokémon is not a Ditto. Ditto will only appear as the regular form of the aforementioned creatures.
Essentially, you have a 1 in 50 chance of finding a Ditto when disguised and, if encountered, you then have a 1 in 64 chance of it being Shiny. The odds of it being Shiny are pretty good, so long as you get past the initial struggle of actually encountering the Pokémon itself. If encountered, you should increase your chances of capturing Shiny Ditto by using a Razz Berry or Golden Razz Berry in Pokémon GO, as you normally would with any Shiny encounter. Shiny Ditto can be hard to come by, and having it is a token of your efforts.
How Often Ditto Disguises Change In Pokémon GO
Ditto’s disguise changes happen every few months and seem to be related to events or new seasons in Pokémon GO. The latest change happened during the Team GO Rocket Takeover event in March, but the list of disguises used by the shapeshifter has previously changed with the arrival of the Season of Mischief in 2021, for instance. Ditto’s disguises also changed during the April Fools’ event in 2022 – in fact, the entire event was centered around Ditto itself. Nevertheless, you should be mindful of official updates and announcements that may reveal Ditto’s changes.
Catching Ditto may be a daunting task if you do not know where to look. Nevertheless, having the updated list of its possible disguises and knowing its spawn rate can significantly help, especially if you are increasing your odds of encountering the creatures it disguises itself as. Hopefully, with this information, you will also be able to capture a Shiny Ditto while playing Pokémon GO.
