We’ve been thinking a lot lately about abundance vs. scarcity mindset. You might already be familiar with this idea but for those who might not know, here’s what it means. Stephen Covey discussed this concept in his best-selling book,The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Scarcity mindset refers to people seeing life as a finite pie, so that if one person takes a big piece, that leaves less for everyone else. Abundance, on the other hand, is the complete opposite. It is the idea that there is plenty out there for everybody. Over the past year, we’ve been working a lot on ourselves and our switch to an abundance mindset.
It can be really easy to live with the perspective where you must succeed or someone else will take your place. We don’t work in a corporate setting but we’re sure it exists there a ton. But this idea isn’t just about work. For us, this mindset leads to comparison, jealousy, insecurity, self-hatred, the list goes on. Once you start feeling those emotions it can be really hard to escape. Maybe you are starting a new business and your first inclination is to be cut throat and ruthless. Unfortunately, history has shown us that those people do tend to succeed in the world. But at what cost? When we flipped our thinking and started to live in abundance and gratitude, things started to change. We started to look at the world differently. Life felt richer and more beautiful. We started to feel more passionate about our work. Friendships felt more full and contentment started to appear. When you think there is enough of life for everyone, someone else’s success is a win and has nothing to do with you. We are all on our own paths and need to focus on that. We are so grateful to be here in this moment writing this post and that’s all that matters. Focusing on improving ourselves and how we move through the world is a choice we all have to make. We do believe that if more people put in the work we could see true change in the world. But for now, we will hop off the soapbox and just say thank you for being here.
