Meet Dr. Jim Dahle

About The White Coat Investor (1)James M. Dahle, MD, FACEP, FAAEM is a practicing emergency physician and the founder of The White Coat Investor. After multiple run-ins with unscrupulous financial professionals early in his career, he embarked on his own self-study process to become financially literate. After seeing the benefits of financial literacy in his own life, he was inspired to start The White Coat Investor to assist his colleagues. At the time, there was nobody providing unbiased financial education to doctors at any point in their training. Now, more than a decade later, financial wellness is widely recognized as a critical life skill for all physicians and similar professionals. Dr. Dahle remains committed to the original mission of The White Coat Investor to “help those who wear the white coat get a fair shake on Wall Street.” He currently serves as the CEO, a columnist, and the host of the podcast.

Dr. Dahle is a proud father of 4 children and spends his free time adventuring around the world. If you can’t find him, he is probably hiding in the mountains or desert of his home state of Utah.

About The White Coat Investor (2)

Brett Stevens

Chief Operating Officer

Boasting an MBA from the University of Utah and having started and owned multiple businesses, Brett has been the WCI Chief Operating Officer since 2020, meaning he works with The White Coat Investor staff to “keep the ship afloat and moving in the right direction.” Like many at WCI, he enjoys spending his free time outdoors, skiing, biking, and canyoneering. He also hungers to see 50 countries by the time he turns 50. His best piece of financial advice: Financially plan for the future while living a great life today.

About The White Coat Investor (3)

Katie Dahle

Chief Product Officer

She’s now the Chief Product Officer, but Katie was at The White Coat Investor from the very beginning. After living in Japan for 10 years while growing up, she has degrees in sports medicine and adapted physical education, and she worked as a certified athletic trainer for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. When WCI was first created in 2011, Katie served as Jim Dahle’s idea sounding board. Now, she oversees all the WCI-branded products, from conferences to courses and from speaking engagements to the online store. Her best piece of financial advice: Give generously.

About The White Coat Investor (4)

Lauren O'Brien

Chief Marketing Officer

Lauren has always been competitive—she was an all-state high jumper, a collegiate volleyball player, and a champion professional bodybuilder. Since 2021, she’s used that competitiveness as The White Coat Investor Director of Marketing, where she tries to tame all of the internet’s algorithms while also directly engaging with WCI's readership. She’s passionate about data-driven marketing and digital experiences, and she uses those skills to bring The White Coat Investor to as many people as possible. Her best piece of financial advice: Keep it simple and focus on building sustainable habits.

About The White Coat Investor (5)

James Talbot

Chief Technology Officer

James has been all over the internet map during his career. He was part of the first team to stream the Super Bowl over the public cloud. He has worked for ViacomCBS, Roku, and Sling TV. He’s worked for small startups, and he’s worked for the likes of Microsoft, Adobe, and Citrix. Since 2020, though, James has been the Chief Technology Officer at The White Coat Investor, and he’s the magician behind the scenes who makes this website look better and load faster. His best piece of financial advice: Spend less than you make. There are plenty of ways to make that happen, but the wider you make that gap, the better off you will be.

About The White Coat Investor (6)

Cindy Remke

Director of Sales

The first employee at The White Coat Investor, Cindy has been with the company since 2014, and she’s done just about everything. These days, she’s the Director of Sales, where she manages the advertiser and affiliate partnerships. As Cindy herself notes, “If WCI owes you money, I am your gal.” With a master’s degree in social work, she spent a decade before WCI working with adolescents suffering from depression and anxiety. A former Division I college athlete and a current-day avid runner, she’s also broken her collarbone four times. Her best piece of financial advice: Surround yourself with daily motivation to reach your financial goals.

About The White Coat Investor (7)

Michelle Baker

Community Liaison

When Michelle isn’t working as the White Coat Investor’s Community Liaison, she’s running absurdly long distances and climbing the highest mountain top in as many states as possible. She’s been at WCI since 2018 where she provides the interface between the WCI team and the public by running all forms of social media. In between her WCI work and her four kids, Michelle also is a doctor of physical therapy and still practices part-time. Her best piece of financial advice: You don’t have to know everything or do everything to reach your financial goals. Just start where you are.

About The White Coat Investor (8)

Chrislyn Woolston

Conference Director

The Conference Director for The White Coat Investor’s annual Physician Wellness and Literacy Conference, Chrislyn loves planning events so much that she used to organize and set up her own birthday parties as a little girl. She’s been at WCI since 2020, and before that, she spent more than a decade as the director for numerous domestic and international conferences, events, and concert tours. How important is she to WCI? In 2021, she helped create the company’s first virtual conference experience, and less than a year later, she directed the first hybrid WCICON (virtual and in-person) to give the conference experience to as many people as possible.

About The White Coat Investor (9)

Emily Macbean

Book Editor

Her title is Book Editor, but Emily has done so much more than that since she began at The White Coat Investor in 2020. In her past work life, she specialized in unified corporate branding and messaging, contact management, interpersonal relationship development, and organizing the unorganizable. Basically, as Emily says, “If you want vision to become your reality, I’m your gal.” At WCI, she brings the physical and e-books to life. Her best piece of financial advice: Bad things can happen to good people, so know your value, work hard, prepare for uncertainty, just keep swimming, and NEVER forget that it's better late than never.

About The White Coat Investor (10)

Josh Katzowitz

Content Director

For most of his career, Josh has been a sportswriter, covering boxing for Forbes and writing for the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, and CBSSports.com. His greatest career moments, until he became The White Coat Investor’s Content Director in 2021, were 1) when he was given the side-eye by Mike Tyson while they were observing Tyson’s pet pigeons, 2) when Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson borrowed a line from Josh to use in a wrestling promo, and 3) when Ralph Macchio made fun of Josh's forgetfulness in front of William Zabka. His best piece of financial advice: Set it and forget it (and don't peek during a bear market).

About The White Coat Investor (11)

Megan Scott

Podcast Producer

Megan is the “do anything” employee at The White Coat Investor, and since 2022, she's taken on the role of podcast producer, where she books guests, creates the weekly show notes, and ensures that the podcast hosts show up for their recording times and look (and sound) amazing while doing so. Like Elvis, she takes care of business behind the scenes of the podcasts. She has a background in journalism, marketing, and event planning, and Megan loves to dance, ski, hike, eat delicious food, and travel. Her best piece of financial advice: You can have anything you want. You just can't have everything you want. Know what you value and spend accordingly.

About The White Coat Investor (12)

Ashriel Lutz

Executive Assistant

Ashriel spent a decade in the investment industry, working in 401(k) compliance and retirement education, and before that, she used her University of Oklahoma journalism degree to excel in event marketing and public relations. Since 2022, she’s worked as WCI’s Executive Assistant, where she does “a little bit of this and a little bit of that,” and in her off time, you’ll find her and her family skiing in the Colorado mountains, playing tennis, and sweating through long-distance runs. Her best piece of financial advice: Focus on your family and your own financial goals without worrying about how those around you are spending their time and money.

About The White Coat Investor (13)

Katie Farley

Designer

WCI’s Designer since 2022, Katie oversees all of WCI’s design projects for the website, WCI’s books, the annual conference, and the company’s social media posts. After previously working at an Ohio advertising agency, she started her Katie Farley Designs graphic design business which includes clients in the healthcare, agriculture, and sporting goods industries. In her downtime, she enjoys participating in triathlons with her husband. Her best piece of financial advice: Plan your budget, plan for taxes, and plan for life’s ups and downs.

About The White Coat Investor (14)

Andrew Paulson

Student Loan Advice

Prior to co-founding StudentLoanAdvice.com—a White Coat Investor Company—where he’s the Lead Student Loan Consultant, Andrew worked in the investment and accounting industries. He has a master’s degree in accounting, and he’s completed the Certified Student Loan Professional (CSLP) program. He calls himself a wannabe triathlete and a student loan nerd, and when he’s not advising people on how to get out from beneath their debt, he’s golfing, mountain biking, skiing, and spending time with his wife and young son. His best piece of financial advice: Take advantage of compound interest, the eighth wonder of the world.

About The White Coat Investor (16)

Travis Ryan

Senior Web Developer

Travis has been working on front-end web development and other responsibilities for The White Coat Investor since 2023. He graduated with a degree in multimedia communications, and after starting his career as a designer, he’s since worked his way into web development. When he’s not doing that, he’s spending time with his two kids and working on his hobbies —which include drawing, playing drums, working on his car, and attempting new cooking recipes. His best piece of financial advance: Get all your numbers down on paper. The path forward is much clearer when you know exactly where you're starting from.

About The White Coat Investor (17)

Rafael Zancanari

Software Design Engineer

Rafael, WCI's Software Design Engineer since 2023, maintains all of WCI's online content and makes sure it's available for readers at all times. His love for technology started while he was still a young boy, and that passion has led him to contribute to many amazing and challenging projects that eventually brought him to WCI. He loves spending time with his wife and four energetic daughters. And, of course, as a Brazilian, he also loves to barbecue and be surrounded by family and friends. His best piece of financial advice: Invest in yourself and learn as much as you can, and you will always have the greatest returns.

About The White Coat Investor (18)

Wendel Topper

Audio-Video Guru

A U.S. Army veteran, Wendel switched careers in 2015, combining his passion for podcasting and his self-taught skills in audio and video production. Since 2019, he has served as the Audio-Video Guru for The White Coat Investor podcasts and the YouTube channel, meaning he takes the raw audio and video and transforms them into the finished products you see and hear. When he’s not doing that, Wendel loves to travel—so much so that he, his wife, and his Pomeranian have driven cross-country eight times. His best piece of financial advance: Learn to be happy living off half of your income, and your life will get really good really quickly.
