Do you know your value? But what exactly is knowing your value? Is it having positive self-esteem? Is it knowing your worth and being able to identify all of your positive qualities? Or is it the way others treat you?
No matter how you define it, there are definite ways in which you can identify and also grow your value and self-worth. Check out the following list:
1. Maintain Positive Self-esteem
Be comfortable with who you are — your weight, height, and everything that makes and represents you. Be confident in the work you deliver and your sense of professionalism. No matter how adverse the external situations are, you can always have a sense of inner balance and tranquillity.
2. Recognize The Difference You Make
Confidently approach a negotiation with full belief in your knowledge, skills, and experience and the difference you can make. Avoid running after quantity but focus more on quality. In the end, it is about the impact and the difference that you make.
3. See Yourself As A Peer
Have a personal sense of value and deservedness and assert yourself as an equal in personal and business relationships. Nurture and elevate the best in yourself. Whatever may be the circ*mstances never shy away from giving yourself a second chance.
4. Do Not Undercharge For Your Services
Quite often out of fear of losing business or the desire to win more business, people will undercharge for their services. This is a classic situation where they end up doing much more than they’re paid to do. This can set a precedent that could be hard to remove.
Just don’t charge for the work that the client expects you to do, but for the value, that you’ll add to that work.
5. Be Clear About Your Values
Know your boundaries. Be clear about what is acceptable behavior, how you like to be treated and spoken to, and you dare to speak out when necessary. Build a character out of values, not valuables. Define your values and avoid any compromise whatever, be at stake.
6. Engage in work that is exciting and fulfilling
Commit yourself to your passion. Passionate people are far more creative than one just working to make a living. When you are involved in work that is fulfilling as well as financially rewarding, you are more inclined to work with even greater commitment. Hence, creating a brand value for yourself.
Finally, it is not for someone else to decide your value but your thoughts, emotions, and most importantly, your actions that determine how others perceive your value.
