And is there a following feed?

A popular question about the newly-launched social media, Threads, is why we see posts from people we don’t follow. The short answer is the app doesn’t really offer many features yet, including a “following” feed. Right now, it’s up to an algorithm to recommend what you see, but you can at least set your notifications to only those you follow if you go into your settings in the top-right corner and select Notifications.
Yesterday, I took the plunge and got the app myself. If you haven’t yet, you may feel a little lost at first, but the Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri acknowledges the app is still at the starting line and the team is working on additional features to expand its capabilities.
Like a lot of others, I’m not a fan of seeing too many randoms in my feed either. In my previous articles Falling Out of Like With Social Media and How to Use Social Media Less I’ve made the point of only following accounts, people, and topics you can root for — and really just to keep scrolling beyond the rest.
But I’m looking forward to seeing where the text-forward social media goes. I’ve been hoping for something like this for a while. It almost feels like Facebook before there was so much emphasis on photos, videos, stories, and reels.
My best answer to what to do about seeing people you don’t follow in your feed is to hang tight and see what happens with coming updates. In the meantime, you can also use the Mute option for accounts you know you won’t want to follow and Hide for individual posts you simply don’t want to see.
What are your thoughts on Threads so far?
