Why are some IT certifications difficult to get? (2024)

An IT certification is a credential that shows a professional's proficiency in a particular area of technology. Certifications are often obtained after some testing, schooling, or examination. One distinction with IT certifications is that they are often vendor-specific.

The reasons why IT certifications are challenging to get some of them are mentioned below:

Why are some IT certifications difficult to get? (1)

1) IT certification requires consistent study.

IT certifications are pretty difficult to pass. To pass the exam, one needs consistent study, which is a big challenge due to the busy working schedules. It's not possible to dedicate time regularly for the preparation of the examination.

Even if the hours spent are comparable, you've already discovered that studying for three hours once a week is preferable to mastering a technique for 30 minutes a day. It's the same for your credential background.

Instead of skipping days and doing lengthy research hours, you will be way better off learning any amount every day for those 60 – 90 days. The consistency of preparing for at least 30 minutes a day keeps the IT certification content fresh in your head, making recall on the actual exam even simpler. It isn't easy to maintain consistency. One must be dedicated hard for this.

It isn't easy to maintain consistency since we want to concentrate on the result rather than the procedure. To put it another way, we are more attracted to the good emotions associated with positive results rather than the challenge associated with the trip. Many of us give up during the challenge before we can reap the benefits of perseverance. This is a significant challenge to obtain IT certification.

2) It needs multiple resources to study.

Today's instructional process will be impossible to conceive without using a variety of teaching and learning opportunities. Not only is it essential to make the experience more appealing and exciting for students, but it is also important to promote constructive learning and the development of different skills.

Similarly, the certification exam requires different resources to prepare for the exam. Sticking to single study materials is not sufficient. One must try different resources to reduce the uncertainty of not getting certified.

We sometimes come across a student who chooses a video course or book for their thesis and declares that this is the only way to prepare for the credential. But that isn't how it works. Any resource you'll need for a credential will be deficient in some way, and there's a lot to be gained by studying from multiple sources. When studying for the IT certification, make sure you learn from various sources, preferably in different formats.

For example, you might use a textbook from one author, a video course from another, and a research guide from a third. The only way to ensure you're thoroughly covering all you need to know is to use multiple resources, in multiple formats, from multiple providers.

3) A large number of exam objectives and content.

Take a look at the entire list of test goals for the IT certification tests, and you'll see that there's a lot of stuff you need to read. Compare this volume of material, or goals, to every college exam, and I'm confident you'll see that a college professor isn't checking on as many subjects or in as much precision as the IT certification tests.

Overall, you'll need to know more for the A+ than for other CompTIA qualification tests, such as Network+ and Security+, which is why CompTIA uses two complete exams to cover all, rather than just one for the others.

4) It requires special memorization capacity.

The IT qualification tests many practical skills, but it still necessitates a fair deal of knowledge of the truth. These elements can be challenging to understand, and there is no other way to learn them other than by memorizing them.

Many topics on the IT test, in my view, are maybe worth learning, but most IT professionals don't know and don't need to know to do their work. Some of the products on IT certifications aren't used or cited too much in the industry, so IT practitioners don't remember them.

What this means for you as a test taker is that you will be required to memorize more information than you will for a career in the industry, and in some situations, you would be studying information that you will not return to even after the exam is completed. In any case, you'll have a lot of memorization and studying to do, which can be difficult.

5) Specific skills are needed.

If you are seeking to make a career in different fields likeCybersecurity, Cloud computing, Data analytics, and data science, Networking and wireless, Software development, AI and machine learning, Project management, Programming, IT service management, and Virtualization, then you must have some specific skills in you to achieve the certification. These skills are difficult to learn since you need to work hard and smart. This also makes achieving IT certification more difficult.

For example, to get Cybersecurity certifications, one must have problem-solving skills, technical aptitude, knowledge of security across various platforms, attention to detail, communication skills, fundamental computer forensics skills, and an understanding of hacking. Similarly, Cloud computing requires database management applications such as MySQL, MongoDB, and Hadoop; programming tools such as PHP, Java, Python, and.NET; Linux, Azure, and AWS; DevOps; Cloud Storage; Virtualization; and Web servers and API are among the topics covered. You'll need academic curiosity, business acumen, solid teamwork, and sound judgment to work as a Cloud Computing professional.

6) It requires working experience.

Certifications prove that you have the potential of doing something better and quicker than others. It reflects your ability to perform better than others and perfection in your work. This perfection can be obtained only if you have worked hard and have experience of doing something. To get experience and perfection is a big deal.

Firstly, finding a job and work to get experience is very tough. It makes achieving IT certification quite tricky. "Although certifications are gaining popularity, they are not the be-all and end-all solution. Many individuals are opting to become accredited in various programs to advance their careers or gain more job protection in the hopes of adding more excellent value to their new employer. But in some cases, some of the clients use certifications as selling tools to their clients. To avoid these problems, the need to have working experience is critical. This is also one of the significant difficulties that come in the way of achieving certification.

7) Exam fees are costly.

The cost of IT certifications varies tremendously. For $100, you can take the AWS qualification exam. The most expensive tests, such as the CCIE, cost $1,500 only for the test. Despite the vast variety of exam costs, specific patterns emerge. Expert-level certifications are usually more costly than entry-level certifications.

It's also true that test application fees don't cover any of the expenses of IT qualification. The cost of training materials, such as books, online classes, and boot camps, easily mounts. For this list, we didn't have research materials; only the exams were considered. The exam cost and materials required to prepare for the test are pretty expensive. Hence, these are some of the reasons that make IT certification expensive.

Wrap Up:

Various reasons that make IT certification difficult are listed above. IT certifications are tough to be obtained, and the reasons mentioned above add more complexity in achieving the certification.
