2x16 is best, less strain on memory controller and possible higher overclocks.

4x 8GB works best for a quad channel motherboard, for the usual PC build, 2x 16GB is preferred. Both my rigs have 2x 16GB of system RAM.

True, 4sticks can make the mem controller struggle, while 2sticks of 16GB may be harder to run at high speed.
But it shouldn't be a trouble with the 12gen cpu's I had issues with 11gen but I was also using mixed memory on a Gigabyte board.
I know AMD Ryzen 5000 doesn't mind 4sticks I ran that and now with Ryzen 6000 and DDR5 I brought a G.Skill FlareX DDR5 2x16GB at 6000MHz which is the sweet spot for this series Ryzen.

buy for example a G.Skill Ripjaws V 32GVKC Kit (2x16GB, 3600 CL16)
that's a decent dual rank kit and it should run at 3466 in gear 1 and 1T Command Rate with your CPU.
