By the Year 2030, most new cars will be made without rearview mirrors, horns, or emergency brakes; and by 2035, they won’t have steering wheels or brake pedals either. That’s right! They won’t need any of these things, because they will be driving themselves and people will be able to sit back and relax (even sleep, in some cases) while basically robots will be doing all of the driving.
Cars are going to change dramatically within the next 10-15 years and at Mike’s Auto Body we will be on the cutting-edge of this new technology as it emerges. Aluminum in newer cars (The 2015 Ford F-150, for example) is a big step and we’ve embraced that innovation, by having the proper equipment and training to work on aluminum vehicles. But there is much more coming very soon to change the automotive world completely.
A recent study by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE),based on a survey of more than 200 experts, see a future where people will simply direct cars to where they want to go. Sophisticated electronics and new technology that seems to come our every day will make all of this possible by 2030, while many other experts say even sooner.
Automakers have made huge strides toward producing conventional cars that can drive themselves in select situations. A few of those will likely be on the market by the end of the decade or soon after. It’s not actually a big jump from what we have today to get to that point. Combine current features like adaptive cruise control, pedestrian recognition, lane keeping assist and parking assist, and you’ve got a car that controls itself.
We’re not quite there yet. Legislation needs to be passed to govern these cars. Insurance companies must figure out how their policies will work when you can’t assign the blame for a crash to a human driver. The hardware—the radars, sensors, and cameras that connect the car and the outside world—still need significant improvement.
Regardless of what happens in the automotive field, we at Mike’s Auto Body will always be prepared to return your car to its pre-accident condition, by embracing cutting—edge equipment, training and techniques to do it right every time. And that’s why we live by our motto here at Mike’s Auto Body—Where Quality Counts!
