What's the college admissions view on a 98 GPA on a 4.0 scale? (2024)

Just curious, I've worked really hard to get a 98 GPA at my school, and I'm not sure how that equates on the 4.0 scale for colleges. Does anyone know if this puts me in a good position when applying to top-tier universities?

Congratulations on your impressive academic performance! A 98 GPA is typically an unweighted score, suggesting you've earned near-perfect grades in your classes. When translated to the 4.0 scale used by most colleges, your GPA would likely be a 4.0, assuming that a 93 to 100 scale equates to an 'A' at your school.

Colleges will convert your GPA to their scale to properly evaluate your academic performance. Since top-tier universities see a host of strong applicants, your 98 GPA certainly places you well academically. Remember, universities also consider the rigor of your coursework, so if you have maintained this GPA while taking advanced or AP classes, that will further strengthen your application.

You've definitely set a strong academic foundation for college applications. Continue to focus on excelling in challenging courses and engage in meaningful extracurricular activities to complement your stellar grades. Best of luck with your applications!
