Using a Prepaid Debit Card

Zelle can not be used without an eligible US bank or credit union account, or - in some cases - with an eligible prepaid card from a bank in the Zelle network.

To enroll with the Zelle^® app, enter your basic contact information, an email address and U.S. mobile number, and a Visa^® or Mastercard^® debit card with a U.S. based account. We do not accept debit cards associated with international deposit accounts or any credit cards.

Zelle only accepts prepaid cards from a few of the Zelle Network Banks. The Zelle Network Banks are traditional brick-and-mortar banks. Prepaid cards that work with Zelle include; Access 360° Prepaid Card, PNC SmartAccess® Prepaid Visa® Card and the Chase Liquid Card (now called Chase Secure Banking).

You can't send money to Cash App through Zelle, but you can link a bank account as a workaround. Link the same bank account to your Zelle and Cash App accounts. Transfer your Cash App balance to your bank account, and then send that balance with Zelle.

Can I use a Netspend prepaid card to accept funds from Zelle? Generally, Zelle does not work with prepaid cards, but however, Zelle supports some prepaid cards. Zelle only accepts prepaid cards from a few of the Zelle Network Banks.

Green Dot prepaid debit cards are not linked to bank accounts, so they cannot be used with Zelle. However, Green Dot does offer its own money transfer service called Green Dot Send Money. Green Dot Send Money allows Green Dot cardholders to send money to other Green Dot cardholders instantly.

Link Zelle and PayPal to the same bank

The main workaround if you want to use Zelle and PayPal together is to link both to the same bank or credit union account. Your account must be in the US, and you'll need to have a debit card linked to it.

As long as you have a Visa or Mastercard debit card, you can download Zelle and use the application to send money.

Since Chime is a financial technology company rather than a bank, it's not currently supported by Zelle. As an alternative, you can use Chime's Pay Anyone feature, which allows you to send money to both Chime users and non-Chime users.

Supported Cards with Cash App

Cash App supports debit and credit cards from Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. Most prepaid cards are also supported. ATM cards, Paypal, and business debit cards are not supported at this time.
