What makes the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX so powerful?
An absolute monster has joined the Ram lineup! The other-worldly Ram 1500 TRX holds the power of the supercharged Hellcat engine and many other high-performance features. The TRX was crowned MotorTrend's 2021 Truck of the Year and is not only the most powerful street-legal pickup but also one of the most capable pickups on and off the pavement. Ram put a lot of hard work into making the TRX the monster that it is, and we want to show you just a few ways they did this. Keep reading below to learn more!
Powerful Engine, Transmission, and Drivetrain
The engine is the heart of any vehicle, so that's where we'll start. The TRX utilizes the potent supercharged 6.2L V8 engine that Dodge uses in their Hellcat models. This rips out a rousing 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque! The twin-screw supercharger has a maximum speed of 14,600 RPM to regulate up to 11 pounds per square inch of boost. The TRX features a high-torque enabled TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission. Drivers are given available control over the transmission with aluminum steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Four-wheel drive is standard for the TRX, as is a traction management system with Auto, Sport, Snow, Custom, Rock, Baja, and Sand/Mud modes.
Massive Air Intake
All engines need cool air to regulate running temperature, especially high-performance engines. To keep the TRX engine's temperature in check, a large functional hood scoop leads to a massive airbox capable of taking in up to 32.9 liters of air per minute and filtering out more than four times the dirt and debris of the Ford Raptor's airbox. Aiding the airbox is an unobstructed flow-through Grille. The R-A-M lettering on the grille is outlined to allow air to pass through the letters, allowing for maximum airflow.
Exhilarating Launch Control
The Ram TRX is the first Ram truck to feature launch control. The system allows you to get the quickest possible launch at the push of a button. When you push the launch control button, you'll be prompted to set the RPM you want the vehicle to launch from. Once that is set on the infotainment touchscreen, the driver information display will tell you to apply brake pressure. Once the pressure is built up, you'll be prompted to hit the gas pedal and hold on tight! Launch control with launch assist works by regulating engine RPM and monitoring wheel slip feedback.
In control with Performance Pages
The 12-inch infotainment touchscreen on the center stack will display four performance pages. The first page is Launch Control, as mentioned above, to allow you to set the RPM and monitor wheel slip. The Dashboard page displays on-the-fly readings of horsepower, steering angles, quarter-mile times, and more. The Dashboard is fully customizable to suit driver preferences. Next is the Dyno/Engine page. This displays your peak horsepower, torque, and boost from an onboard dynameter and allows you to compare them to previous records. Lastly is Vehicle Dynamics. This page is for off-roading situations as it lets drivers adjust the transfer case gearing, set the preferred steering angle, and lock the axles.
