Shipping is the act of transferring the cargo from port to port, whereas shipment is the cargo being transferred. You may have also heard of a shipping line, which is the business that make the shipment. A famous shipping line is Maersk.
Although Maersk is the famous shipping line, but it doesn’t mean that they know the different between Shipping and Shipment.
Shipping is the process of goods being transported, while shipment is the goods/ consignment which were ordered. Once the company receives the goods, they are called "delivery".
So if somebody says "your order has been shipped" it means your order is on the way to the delivery service (not sent to you directly).
When the delivery service receives the goods and is ready to deliver them to you then it is called delivery (sent to you directly).
If you have a strong knowledge of shipping and shipment, organization, process monitoring, control over your budget, and control over your shipping & shipment processes, what sets you apart from your competitors?
The answer is depend on how do you devise strategies on your shipping & shipment to be efficient and effective.
