Our timeline
Starting our journey
What started as an idea finally became reality - Surfshark was born. We launched our VPN apps on macOS, Windows, Android, Android TV & Fire TV, and went through our first independent audit by Cure53.
Launching new products
As our first year passed, we began to add more layers to our cybersecurity offering - Surfshark Alert & Search. We also kick-started our research activities with the release of the first Digital Quality of Life (DQL) index, which has been updated annually since then.
Earning the industry’s trust
We boomed in promoting online safety and privacy. Not only did Surfshark move to a 100% RAM-only server network and introduce WireGuard®, but we also became a founding member of the VPN Trust Initiative.
Receiving international recognition
We continued to grow our cybersecurity suite, launching Surfshark Antivirus & Incogni - a tool that removes your personal data from the hands of data brokers. We also won the PCMag Editors Choice award and gained recognition as TechRadar’s must-have Work from Home app.
Growing even stronger
Surfshark launched a cutting-edge technology revolutionizing the VPN industry – Nexus, and kicked off its own research center. We also became a Unicorn Company after merging with Nord Security – the powerhouse of both companies raised an outside capital at a $1.6 billion valuation.
Keeping our promises
We continue to adhere to the highest privacy standards and cooperate with NGOs. Deloitte confirmed our no-logs commitments, and together with the human rights watchdog NetBlocks, we launched the Internet Shutdown Tracker, which records social media and internet censorship cases globally.
Securing our authority
Our products are more relevant than ever, as proven by our 47th rank in the "Financial Times 1000: Europe's Fastest Growing Companies" list and the Tech Advisor Editors' Choice 2024 badge. Our achievements highlight our focus on quality, the confidence the industry has in us, and our efforts to maintain our leading role.
Supporting the open internet
Free, open, and secure internet is the essence of our cause. That is why we proactively support the works of non-profit organizations that advocate for safeguarding online freedom and transparency.
“As a a global internet monitor and watchdog organization working at the intersection of digital rights, cybersecurity and internet governance, our partnership with Surfshark is helping us reach new audiences and communities in the fight for a more connected and inclusive digital future.”
– Alp Toker, Founder & Director of NetBlocks
