Description
Network Time Protocol (NTP) is a protocol that enables the user to synchronize devices by distributing an accurate clock across the network. Please note that the NTP server port cannot be modified in some products' software versions, and in those cases it is set by default to port 123. Configuring Alteon or DefensePro NTP using APSolute Vision Configure NTP server for APSolute Vision Maxpoll-Maximum poll intervals for NTP messages,in seconds as a power of two.The maximum poll interval defaults to 10 (i.e. 1,024 s), but can be increased by themaxpoll option to an upper limit of 17 (i.e. 36.4 h). The "prefer" argument marks the server as preferred. That is, all other things being equal, this host will be chosen for synchronization from a set of correctly operating hosts.
In predefined intervals, a device sends "time query" messages to a Network Time Server. The server then sends the date and time to the device.
Different levels of accuracy can be achieved using the NTP.
When this feature is disabled, the device time and date must be set manually. When enabled, the IP address of the Network Time Server has to be configured, as well as the polling interval (in seconds).
1. In the APSolute VisionConfigurationperspectiveSetuptab navigation pane, selectTime Settings.
2. Configure the parameters; and then, click (Submit).
1.To add a new NTP server, run the command :
Example: system ntp servers add 1.1.1.1 minpoll 6 maxpoll 10 prefer
Minpoll-Minimum poll intervals for NTP messages, in seconds as a power of two.The minimum poll interval defaults to 6 (i.e. 64 s), but can be decreased by theminpoll option to a lower limit of 4 (i.e. 16 s).
Note that you can add more than 1 NTP server tp APSolute Vision.
2.By Default, NTP services are stopped into the device.
To check the
ToStart and stop the NTP service:system ntp service start / stop
Please note, setting the NTP requires restarting the APSolute Vision server, the APSolute Vision reporter and MySql. Confirm the action by pressing ‘Y’ and Enter.
2. To remove a server from the NTP servers list:system ntp servers del
3.To display the list of the NTP servers with the specified arguments:system ntp servers get
For APSolute Vision VA
The time on the APSolute Vision VA must be the same as—or within several minutes of—the time on the VMware host. Otherwise, an APSolute Vision reboot may hang (even when, in the VMware Tools, the synchronize guest time with host checkbox is cleared). If the reboot hangs, reboot the APSolute Vision VA server, which should solve the problem. For more information on this issue, refer to the VMware knowledge article Linux guests (1006427)
