- What is my encryption key and how can I recover it?
WHAT IS MY ENCRYPTION KEY?
Your encryption key is the password that allows you to be the only one having access to the files you upload. It's a random string of words and numbers created for scrambling and unscrambling data designed with algorithms.
You will set it up during your first log in and we recommend setting an encryption key that is easy to remember. Also, the longer you make the key, the harder it is to crack the encryption code.
Warning:Should you lose the encryption key there will be no way to recover it, so please be very careful when saving it!
HOW CAN I RECOVER MY ENCRYPTION KEY?
If you're part of an organization, contact your administrator. While the old encryption key will be lost forever, he will be able to create and provide you with a new one that will give you back access to your account.
Warning: if you're the company administrator or a single user, the encryption key is neither recoverable by you, Bernstein or anyone else.
If you forget or lose it, it is gone.
We therefore highly recommend creating a backup, be it written on a piece of paper safely stored away or in a password manager such as Clipperz.
