A Prepaid Freight refers to the transport cost the shipper has to cover before shipping. In the event of non-arrival, the payment is not refundable. The shipper has the possibility of getting a refund in case of damage or loss.

If freight prepaid is specified, it mean that the shipper or the consignor is responsible for the freight. The opposite of Freight prepaid is “freight collect,” that specifies that the consignee or the receiver is responsible for the freight.

Freight refers to: 1. any type of goods, items or commodities that are transported in bulk via air transport, surface transport or sea/ocean transport. 2. the amount paid for the transportation of goods via any means or the combination of transport systems.

Under this term, the cost of shipping is 'prepaid' by the shipper of goods rather than the recipient, and this extra cost is included in the purchase price of goods. This also means that the shipper is held responsible for any extra charges that might arise in the transportation process.

It is also called 'Collect upon Arrival', and it implies that shipping, as well as additional charges, are the responsibility of the shipment receiver. Similarly, Freight Prepaid denotes that the shipping charges are the responsibility of the shipper or consignor.

When “freight prepaid” is listed on a shipping agreement, all charges associated with its transport, including its freight bill and ancillary fees, are the responsibility of the shipper.

The phrases “F.O.B. Origin, Freight Prepaid and Charged Back” and “F.O.B. Origin, Freight Prepaid and Add” mean that the seller pays the freight charges to the carrier but then collects from the buyer by adding the amount to the seller's invoice.
