What is Amethyst?

Amethyst is a violet to purple quartz gemstone that is often used in jewelry. It gets its name from the Greek words "amethystos," which means "not drunk." In ancient times, amethyst was believed to have the power to prevent drunkenness and keep the wearer quick-witted in both business and battle. The Greeks associated this stone with Bacchus, the god of wine, and they believed that wearing it would help prevent intoxication.

Amethyst Meaning

Amethyst has been a symbol of royalty for centuries. Its deep purple color is associated with luxury, wealth, and power. It is believed to have healing and protective powers and is often used in feng shui to clear negative energy from a space or protect it from harm. It is also said to enhance intuition, spiritual awareness, and psychic abilities.

History of Amethyst

Amethyst has a long and fascinating history. In ancient times, it was considered one of the most precious gemstones and was often used to adorn crowns, scepters, and other royal regalia. It was also believed to have the power to ward off evil spirits and protect the wearer from harm.

In the Middle Ages, amethyst was believed to have the power to calm the mind and help the wearer make wise decisions. It was also said to have the power to cure insomnia and prevent nightmares. It was often used in amulets and talismans for protection.

Today, amethyst is still highly valued and is often used in jewelry, decorative objects, and spiritual practices. It is found all over the world, but the most important suppliers are South America (particularly Brazil) and Africa.
