While DHCP or other dynamic IP addressing schemes appear to be popular, in certain situations static IPs make for a robust simplistic network design. Like Steve Suehring mentioned in the book "Linux Firewalls", the most secure firewalls are the ones that are simple, as they may have fewer loopholes. Static IPs may not be cheap, as you need to reserve an IP address typically from a block. But these are popular especially when the domains may keep changing, or different domains may use the same underlying static IP address which remains constant. This helps keep the firewall rules static, as those are based on the IP address.

Hay que precisar que usar direcciones IP estáticas públicas implica un pago al ISP correspondiente. En el caso de las direcciones IP estáticas privadas no tenemos esa dificultad, sin embargo, se recomienda aplicarlo en redes para pequeñas empresas que no tengan gran volumen de usuarios, ya que no es escalable y puede complicarse la administración y control.
