The Control Lock feature on a Top Load Washer, Front Load Washer, and the GE Profile™ UltraFast Combo Washer/Dryer can prevent any selections from being made when the feature is activated. You can set the Control Lock feature when the appliance is not in use or during a wash cycle. The controls can be locked or unlocked after a cycle has started. Children cannot accidentally start the appliance when this option is selected.
To Lock or Unlock the Washer or Combo Controls
On a Top Load Washer, depending on the model, to Lock or Unlock the washer controls, you press and hold either the Warm Rinse and Auto Soak buttons for 3 seconds or the Rinse and Spin buttons for 3 seconds.
On a Front Load Washer or the UltraFast Combo Washer/Dryer, press and hold either the Control Lock or Light-Control Lock pad for 3 seconds to lock or unlock the controls. Some older Front Load Washer models simply had a Lock button. You press and hold the Lock button for 3 seconds to use the feature.
The Extra Rinse pad on the Combo model is also used as the Control Lock pad when pressed for 3 seconds.
A sound is made to indicate the Lock or Unlock status. The Control Lock icon on the display will light up when the feature is on. When the Control Lock is on, the display will not respond to knob or button inputs. The POWER button can still be used when the machine is locked.

Unplug the machine and wait a few minutes. Most doors will open once the power is off and the temperature cools off. Try knocking gently on the handle or pressing the pause/start button. Loop fishing line around the locked door and pull away from the door to manually unlock the locking mechanism.
Spring washers are locking washers that are used when there is a need to prevent a fastener from loosening as a result of vibration. They are also often called split lock or split ring washers.
Access the lid lock switch by unplugging your washer from the wall and turning off the water.Press a magnet against the lid lock mechanism for a quick, easy way to bypass the lid lock. Cut the 1st and 3rd wire (or 1st and 4th wire if there are 4 wires) that attach to the lid lock to permanently bypass it.
Turn off the machine for 5-10 minutes and try opening it again: This method works in most cases when the door lock is stuck. Turning off the machine for a few minutes gives it time to reset and release the door lock. After a few minutes, try opening the door again.
When the child lock is activated, there will be a key symbol in the display and all the washing machine buttons will be disabled. To deactivate the child lock, press and hold the start button for three to five seconds. After this time you will hear an audible beep and the key symbol will disappear.
Turning off the machine at the mains should allow the door lock to cool down, and after a few minutes, you'll be able to open the washing machine door. The interlocks can take some time to release at the end of the cycle, so be patient. The most common cause is water left in the machine. Try running a spin/drain cycle.
