Is TryHackMe AttackBox safe? ›

TryHackMe's Attack Box

TryHackMe's in-browser machine (called the AttackBox) is the easiest and most secure way to start hacking! TryHackMe provides all users with an AttackBox machine with all the security tools pre-installed to start hacking in a legal and safe environment, accessed entirely through the browser.

Tokens are exclusively for educational institutions.

With TryHackMe's management dashboard, you can choose to purchase subscriptions in the form of 'user tokens. User tokens are a convenient way to redeem subscriptions on your dashboard when needed.

Currently, you can accumulate points by completing rooms. Completing challenge rooms in the same month they are released will award you with more points. The more points you collect, the higher up in the leaderboard you will be.

TryHackMe operates on a level system, echoed into the Discord server for members. By playing rooms on the website, you earn points for each question completed; challenge rooms yield more points than walkthroughs, with recent rooms offering the highest rewards.

Technically, yes, you can be hacked while using a VPN, but it's much less likely. A good VPN encrypts your data, making it very difficult to steal. However, VPNs have limitations, such as their inability to protect against malware and phishing attacks that have already compromised a device and human errors.

What is the AttackBox? TryHackMe's AttackBox is an Ubuntu Virtual Machine hosted in the cloud, allowing you to complete many tasks in our rooms. Think of the AttackBox as your virtual computer, which you would use to conduct a security engagement.

Good For Beginners

TryHackMe is one of the best programs to get your foot in the door, but for those who have already taken more advanced courses, it may be better to try one of their competitors that is more focused on solving rooms than teaching you how to solve rooms with basic tools.

HTB offers certifications, while THM does not. HTB enforces stricter copyright policies. THM provides more content for a single subscription. HTB is better suited for experienced practitioners, while THM is more beginner-friendly.

To access the room, use the username “tryhackme” and the password “tryhackme” without the quotation marks. You can log in via SSH using the machine's IP address displayed at the top of the room card. The command is simple: `ssh tryhackme@<machine's IP address>`. This command will grant you access to the remote machine.
