Ultimate Ironmen use many different methods to store items and to save inventory space due to their inability to bank. These include using various items that can store multiple items in a single inventory space, Item Retrieval Services that can serve as a temporary "bank" for storing items, storage furniture in the player-owned house, STASH units, and more. In this way, Ultimate Ironmen can have at least some flexibility in terms of what items they have available for different activities.

Storage items[edit | edit source]

Certain items can store multiple other items in a single inventory space. The most important storage item is the looting bag. There are also other items that are very useful for overall gameplay, such as the rune pouch and the seed box.

Looting bag[edit | edit source]

Ultimate Ironman Guide/Item Management (30)

The looting bag stores up to 28 tradeable items or stacks of items in a single inventory space. The looting bag cannot hold untradeable items. On death, the looting bag is destroyed, and the contents inside will be dropped to the ground or put into the relevant Item Retrieval Service.

Items can be put into the looting bag (commonly referred as "bagging") in the Ferox Enclave. It is the only non-Wilderness area where items can be put into the looting bag. Players can quickly get there by using a ring of dueling or the basic jewellery box (or higher), or using the Grouping teleport to Last Man Standing. Bagging items elsewhere than the Ferox Enclave is not recommended, except for very low-level players who cannot be targeted by most player killers.

Ultimate Ironman Guide/Item Management (31)

The main way for Ultimate Ironmen to get the contents out from the looting bag is to die. Another option is to destroy the bag in the Wilderness and pick up the items. When the looting bag is destroyed in the Wilderness, the contents inside will drop on the ground and they are instantly visible to other players. Destroying the bag is only recommended when the player has relatively few items inside and can quickly pick up everything at once.

  • If the looting bag is destroyed outside of the Wilderness, the contents inside will be permanently lost. Extra care should be taken when destroying the bag.
  • The Ferox Enclave is not considered the Wilderness for the purpose of destroying the looting bag. If the looting bag is destroyed in the Ferox Enclave, the contents inside will be permanently lost.
  • If any chinchompas are put into the looting bag, the only way to get them out without losing them is to destroy the looting bag in the Wilderness.

Looting bags can be obtained from monsters in low-level Wilderness. Currently, the fastest method to obtain a looting bag is to kill the level 1 rats just outside of the Ferox Enclave slightly north-east. This method is only recommended for players with minimal risk. A slower but a safer method is to kill thugs in the Edgeville Dungeon. Players can also purchase looting bags or looting bag notes at Justine's stuff for the Last Shopper Standing for 1 Last Man Standing point each. As of a recent update, looting bags can be purchased from Slayer Masters for 10 Slayer points.

Other storage items[edit | edit source]

Ultimate Ironman Guide/Item Management (32)

The rune pouch and the seed box are the most notable storage items. The rune pouch can store up to three different types of runes, which is useful for all sorts of Magic spells. The seed box can store up to six different types of seeds, useful for Farming training or storing seeds from drops for later use. Both of these items are extremely useful overall and worth getting as early as possible.

The herb sack can store up to thirty of each type of grimy herb. It is mainly used for specific activities that give a lot of unnoted grimy herbs, such as tracking herbiboars or killing monsters like Aberrant spectres. Otherwise, the herb sack has limited uses and offers only minor benefits for Slayer, so many players choose not to get one as it takes a considerable amount of time to obtain.

Note: Should the player die with too many items, mainly including a full herb sack, it is possible to hit the maximum number of items on the ground, which will delete items upon death.

The plank sack stores up to 28 planks of any variety. It is very useful for training Construction, and also helpful for training Agility at the Hallowed Sepulchre.

Other storage items have very limited or niche uses, so they are generally not recommended for most Ultimate Ironmen to obtain.

Ghost Storage[edit | edit source]

Some storage items can be used to "ghost store" the items they contain. This method allows players to keep the items in storage without keeping the storage item in their inventory. To do this, the player must put the items in the storage item, turn off the "Always empty on death" option for that item if applicable, then "wipe" the storage item by letting a death pile expire or leaving it in a death bank and dying again. When the player reobtains the storage item, it will still contain the items.

For example, one can buy a Bolt pouch, add Dragon bolts to it, die in a death pile, wait 1 hour for the death pile to expire, then buy another bolt pouch. The second bolt pouch will contain the dragon bolts, so in the meantime they were stored while taking up no space.

Note that generally using the "Destroy" option will delete the contents, so it must be wiped via either death pile or death bank expiration. Also, not all storage items are compatible with ghost bagging and simply delete the contents when they are reobtained. The storage item also may be more difficult to reobtain than the contents. For example, a player can ghost store Rope in a Huntsman's kit, but to reobtain the kit requires a uncommon drop from Hunter rumours which is significantly harder to get than buying more rope.

Temporary item storage[edit | edit source]

Deathpiling[edit | edit source]

Ultimate Ironman Guide/Item Management (47)

Ultimate Ironmen have different death mechanics than other account types. On a normal death outside of instanced areas, all items will drop to the ground. The items will stay there for 60 minutes before disappearing. This 60-minute timer counts down only when the player is logged in. The items will not show to other players (unless the player suicides in the Wilderness) and they will appear in any world as they are attached to the player. If the player dies again with items from a previous deathpile still on the ground, they will stay there for the remainder of the 60 minutes from the first death.

Purposefully suiciding and temporarily storing items this way is also known as deathpiling. There are a few different methods that are commonly used for deathpiling:

  • Dying to biting insects in the Lumbridge Swamp Caves without a light source. Players can easily access the caves from the Lumbridge Castle cellar. While being attacked by insects, players can click the exit to the caves at 2 hitpoints to die in the cellar where their items can be retrieved in safety. Alternatively, players with low Thieving levels can pickpocket Men and Women in the castle courtyard to die next to the respawn point.
  • Picking nettles in Edgeville while not wearing gloves. This will put the items right next to the Edgeville Dungeon, which is convenient for getting a new looting bag.
  • Suiciding to a White Knight in Falador Castle. This is a good option for players who have their respawn point in Falador, as they can pick up their items right after dying.
  • Pickpocketing elves in Prifddinas. This is a good option for players who have their respawn point in Prifddinas, as they can pick up their items right after dying.
Ultimate Ironman Guide/Item Management (48)

To speed up deathpiling, it is recommended to lower the Hitpoints beforehand if feasible. This is usually done by feeling the locator orb or attempting to eat the dwarven rock cake. Low-level players can alternatively attempt to steal from the 10 coin chest in East Ardougne without disarming the traps.

Deathpiling can be used to manage items in the looting bag. Compared to using an Item Retrieval Service, deathpiling is free, it does not have any requirements, and it is relatively fast. Deathpiling also allows the player to keep their items safe for trips to the Wilderness. It is also useful for trips to Entrana, which require the player to have no weapons or armour.

Putting items on a table[edit | edit source]

Tradeable items can be put on a table by simply using an item on the table. Items put on a table will stay on it for 10 minutes before disappearing. The items will show to other players 60 seconds after being put on the table. However, items put on the table at the Blast Furnace will not show to other players. Players with an alt can use a table in their POH to table safely, though the alt must stay in the house to keep the instance open.

This method is useful for quick trips to Entrana, which requires the player to have no weapons or armour. It can also be useful for players who plan to store their items at an Item Retrieval Service but cannot hold all their items at once.

Any chinchompas must be put on a table if the player is going to suicide to manage their items. Otherwise, the chinchompas will be lost on death.

Dropping items[edit | edit source]

Dropped items stay on the ground for 3 minutes before disappearing. Tradeable items will show to other players 60 seconds after being dropped. Untradeable items do not show to other players. In the Wilderness, dropped tradeable items show instantly to other players.

This method is mainly used to "juggle" items on the floor to temporarily extend inventory space. Dropping untradeable items can also be useful when quickly entering to Entrana while questing. Otherwise, it is recommended to use other methods to temporarily make inventory space, as the player risks losing the dropped items to a disconnection.

Item Retrieval Services[edit | edit source]

Ultimate Ironman Guide/Item Management (49)

Some instances provide an Item Retrieval Service, which is often referred to as a "deathbank". On death in a such instance, all items will be stored into the Item Retrieval Service, which returns the player's items after a death within the instance. This allows Ultimate Ironmen to store their items indefinitely until they are withdrawn.

Item Retrieval Services have an interface (except Zulrah) that allows the player to withdraw specific items as desired. They are commonly used for safe activities that require a lot of inventory space, such as training Smithing, Construction, or Herblore.

While items are stored at an Item Retrieval Service, any unsafe death will cause those items to be permanently lost. It is strongly recommended to only do completely safe activities while items are stored at an Item Retrieval Service.

Item Retrieval Services cost money to use. The exceptions are Zulrah, which is free for Ultimate Ironmen, and the Volcanic Mine, which costs numulites instead of coins. To get their items back, the player must bring the payment with them or have it stored in the Item Retrieval Service.

Hespori[edit | edit source]

Ultimate Ironman Guide/Item Management (50)

Hespori is generally the best Item Retrieval Service to use. It is easily accessible through multiple different teleports, and only costs 25,000 coins to use. Using the Hespori storage requires level 65 Farming (boostable) and a fully grown Hespori seed. The coins can be taken out of your stored items, you dont need to bring the cash upon collection.

Low-level players are advised to build the Battlefront portal in their player-owned house to get to the Farming Guild. High-level players who have their respawn point and player-owned house in Prifddinas can quickly get there by entering their house, and using the fancy jewellery box teleport to the Farming Guild.

Volcanic Mine[edit | edit source]

The Volcanic Mine Item Retrieval Service is unique in that it requires numulite to use, rather than coins. A quick way to get numulite is to use stored fossils from Fossil Island activities and trade them for numulite at the Fossil Collector.

Players can quickly get to the Volcanic Mine via the mounted digsite pendant in the player-owned house. Low-level players who have their respawn point in Lumbridge can take the gnome glider from Al Kharid to the Digsite, travel to Fossil Island, and run from the Museum Camp to the mine.

Zulrah[edit | edit source]

The Zulrah Item Retrieval Service returns the items based on a set order, unlike the other Item Retrieval Services. This makes it an inconvenient option for managing items, and thus using it is generally not recommended. However, this Item Retrieval Service does not cost money to use[1] (unlike for other account types, this is true regardless of killcount), which can be useful for low-level players.

Items retrieved from Priestess Zul-Gwenwynig will be returned in the following order:

  • Stackable items that are already in your inventory
  • Inventory from left to right, top to bottom (seeds from the seed box and runes from the rune pouch are retrieved after the seed box/rune pouch respectively)
  • Equipment from left to right, top to bottom
  • Looting bag from left to right, top to bottom

Other[edit | edit source]

Other Item Retrieval Services can be useful in special situations, such as when using Hespori is not possible. Vorkath is fast to get to by using the Moonclan house portal or Fremennik sea boots 4. The Theatre of Blood is unique in that the player is spawned in Ver Sinhaza after the death, which allows the player to access the Item Retrieval Service right after dying. However, both are a lot more expensive to use than Hespori.

Player-owned house[edit | edit source]

Ultimate Ironman Guide/Item Management (51)

The storage options in the player-owned house are mainly centered around the Costume room. At level 46 Construction, players can build the Armour case and the Magic wardrobe, which can store lots of various equipment. Other notable storage options include the Treasure chest, the Cape rack, and the Pet house.

For more information, see Ultimate Ironman Guide/Construction.

Armour case[edit | edit source]

One of the main uses of the armour case is storing Void Knight equipment. At level 46 Construction, players can build an Oak armour case to store 25 armour sets.

Useful sets stored in the Armour case are shown in the table below.

Magic wardrobe[edit | edit source]

Ultimate Ironman Guide/Item Management (126)

Many Ultimate Ironman players rush to build a magic wardrobe as soon as possible, as it can store the graceful outfit. The lowest level Magic wardrobe is the oak magic wardrobe, which can be build at level 42 Construction and can store up to seven armour sets.

Useful sets stored in the Magic wardrobe are shown in the table below.

However, this may not be efficient, as the amount of time required to obtain the ice gloves is significantly lower than the time required to complete the smiths uniform set.

The Obsidian cape may be stored on the cape rack, while the Dragon 2h sword must be placed in the inventory or Looting bag.

Noted potions[edit | edit source]

Ultimate Ironman Guide/Item Management (197)

Potions can be noted by using a decanter to decant potions into specific doses. This is typically done while training Herblore to keep the potions for later use. Bob Barter is generally the best decanter to use, as he is next to a bank and to the Grand Exchange teleport.

To note unnoted potions, players must decant the potions into smaller-dosed ones than they originally were. For example, unnoted 4-dose potions will be noted when they are decanted into 2-dose potions, but unnoted 2-dose potions decanted into 4-dose potions will stay unnoted. Players will need to have coins or noted empty vials in their inventory to do this.

Players will also need to have at least 1–3 empty inventory spaces or empty vials depending on what doses the potions are decanted into. Otherwise, the decanter will say there is not enough inventory space to decant the potions. The minimum amount of space required is shown in the table below.

DosesSpace
required
4 → 32
4 → 21
4 → 13
3 → 21
3 → 12
2 → 11

When decanting from 3-dose potions into 2-doses, players can alternatively have an unnoted 1-dose potion in the inventory. This makes it so the player does not have to drop any items when decanting, because the 1-dose potion effectively counts as an empty inventory space. However, this is only feasible when making an even number of potions per inventory (such as 10 × 10), as with an uneven number the unnoted 1-dose potion will be noted.

Potions that are already noted can be decanted into any doses, and they will stay noted regardless of what doses they are decanted into. For example, decanting noted 2-dose potions into 4-doses will give the player noted 4-dose potions and noted empty vials. This mechanic allows players to have their potions at any doses: if the player wanted to note unnoted 4-dose potions, they would first decant them into 2-dose potions to note them, and then decant them back into 4-dose potions and the potions would stay noted.

With the completion of the hard tasks in the Desert Diary, Zahur can also be used to turn clean herbs along with vials of water into unfinished potions. Doing so costs 200 coins per herb. This is the only way to get noted unfinished potions, which vastly increases the speed of potion-making.

For more information, see Ultimate Ironman Guide/Herblore.

Players can also use the decanter to have multiple stacks of the same potion in different doses. The easiest way to do this is to use the looting bag to deposit a certain amount of potions inside. This can be toggled in the looting bag settings. For example, a player could deposit 10 noted 4-dose Saradomin brews into the looting bag for later use, and have a large stack of noted 2-dose potions in the inventory.

Having small stacks of noted potions is very useful for Chambers of Xeric. This allows players to drop the potions before the Great Olm for more inventory space, and only risk relatively few potions in case they disconnect and lose the raid. It can also be useful for trips to the Wilderness if the player has limited inventory space available, as this speeds up preparation while the items are deathpiled on the ground.

Other[edit | edit source]

Coins storage[edit | edit source]

Coins can be stored in coffers located at some minigames. The coins coffers at the Nightmare Zone and Last Man Standing are most commonly used, and they can hold up to 262,143,000 each. Coins can only be deposited or withdrawn from these coffers in multiples of 1000 coins.

The servant's money bag in the player-owned house can also be used to store up to 3,000,000. Coins can only be deposited or withdrawn from the money bag in multiples of 100 coins.

Coins can also be stored at the Grand Exchange by putting in a buy offer for a Bond for less than its market price and aborting the offer. The coins can then be retrieved by using the Collect option on any bank.

Tool Leprechauns[edit | edit source]

Ultimate Ironman Guide/Item Management (198)

Tool Leprechauns store Farming tools and exchange harvested items into banknotes. Players can note herbs (both grimy and clean), farmable Herblore secondaries, and tradeable tree saplings by using the item on a Tool Leprechaun.

Players can clean herbs in bulk by unnoting herbs at a bank, cleaning them and noting the clean herbs at a Tool Leprechaun. The best place to do this is in the north wing of the Farming Guild, which requires level 85 Farming to access. Players who do not have the required Farming level can do this in the Hosidius Vinery, which does not have any requirements.

Blast Furnace bar storage[edit | edit source]

Bars can be stored in the Blast Furnace bar dispenser for later use. This is useful for storing steel bars for training Construction through Mahogany Homes contracts if the player does not have noted steel bars. Players can also store runite bars for a rune crossbow, completing Sherlock master clue steps, or smithing rune bolts to use onyx bolt tips.

Animated Armour storage[edit | edit source]

The Animated Armour room in the Warriors' Guild can store a single platebody, platelegs, and full helm set up to rune. To store armour this way, simply animate a set of armour as usual, then leave the room. Shanomi will have the armour for the player when they return. This can be useful for storing a set of armour between sessions of collecting Warrior guild tokens.

Dwarf multicannon[edit | edit source]

The dwarf multicannon can be reclaimed from Nulodion for free if the cannon is placed down and allowed to decay. This essentially allows players to store the cannon for later use. However, the cannon itself is not very useful for most players due to the time it takes to make cannonballs.

Elnock Inquisitor[edit | edit source]

Elnock Inquisitor can store butterfly nets, and up to 1,000 Ultimate Ironman Guide/Item Management (199) Impling jars. In addition, Elnock sells 10 impling jars per day for 2,000 per jar.

Tombs of Amascut pickaxe storage[edit | edit source]

In Tombs of Amascut's Lobby, the Cavity will store 1 pickaxe of any tier. This can be used instead of the Dragon pickaxe master STASH unit, only requiring the completion of Beneath Cursed Sands. This has an additional benefit of not needing to deal with the other two items in the STASH unit.

Lunar Staff[edit | edit source]

Obtaining a dramen staff required for access to fairy rings is a particularly tedious task for Ultimate Ironmen as it usually involves deathpiling to gain access to Entrana. The Lunar staff serves as an enhanced dramen staff for access to fairy rings. The retrieval cost is 30,000 from the Oneiromancer after the Lunar Diplomacy quest, but players who have only partially completed this quest can re-obtain lost lunar staves at no cost. Alternatively you could also purchase from Lost Property shop costing 60,000 give you more locations to re-obtain.

Cold storage[edit | edit source]

Inside the Neypotzli dungeon, during the fight against Blue Moon, there is a special attack during which the player's weapon is unequipped and frozen in a block of ice. Disconnecting or logging out during this attack will cause Eyatlalli in the Ancient Shrine to indefinitely hold the stolen weapon, even if the player dies an unsafe death.

The item can later be reclaimed by re-entering the Blue Moon boss fight at which point it will be (in order) either, equipped, added to your inventory, or, if both are full, dropped. It can also be reclaimed by speaking to Eyatlalli in the Ancient Shrine and choosing "I lost my weapon fighting the Blue Moon. Could I have it back?".

Ideally, chinchompas, untradeable weapons, or weapons with niche use cases should be stored here. For example, storing the Toxic blowpipe here would save 3 looting bag slots, or storing the Keris partisan with any jewel equipped would save an inventory space.

She previously offered her services for free, but we no longer feel that's appropriate, since Zulrah is so generous with its loot. Once a non-Ultimate Iron player has a Zulrah kill count of 50 or more, she will start charging 100,000 coins to return your items, matching Torfinn's fee. This charge will not apply to Ultimate Iron players."
