What you see out your window will give you great clues as to what kind of community you live e in.

  • Do you know the word community?

A community is a place where people work, live, and play.

There are three main communities in which people live: rural, suburban, and urban.

A rural community is also called the country.

If you live outside of town with wide open space, you live in a rural community.

People in rural communities usually have large yards with neighbors far away. There are few buildings and businesses in rural communities.

Farms are located in rural communities because they need open areas to grow crops and raise animals.

A suburban community is an area right outside of a city.

In the suburbs, many people live in neighborhoods or small apartment complexes. There are parks, libraries, grocery stores, and other stores people need.

Suburban communities are the main areas where people live.

The urban community is also called a city.

In the urban communities, there are a lot of tall buildings. It is much more crowded than any other community.

Since there is not a lot of space in the city, many people use mass transit (buses, subways, etc.).
