Signing in with both a password and a second step on your phone protects against password-stealing scams. Even if someone gets your password online, they won't also have your phone.

Google announced in May that it would start automatically requiring users to adopt two-step verification as a security precaution when they sign into services such as Gmail. That plan, which the company said would expand by the end of this year to 150 million users on mobile and desktop, has now started.

2-step verification adds a second layer of protection during the login process. Currently your Google login is tied to “something you know” (your password). Two-factor authentication adds the second layer of “something you have” (typically your smartphone and absent that, printed backup codes).

To help protect you from abuse, we sometimes ask you to prove you're not a robot before you can create or sign in to your account. This extra confirmation by phone helps keep spammers from abusing our systems. Tip: To verify your account, you need a mobile device.

2FA is essential to web security because it immediately neutralizes the risks associated with compromised passwords. If a password is hacked, guessed, or even phished, that's no longer enough to give an intruder access: without approval at the second factor, a password alone is useless.

The 2-Step Verification section shows whether 2SV is turned on for the user, and whether 2SV is currently enforced across your organization. You have the option of turning off 2SV for a locked-out user, but this isn't recommended. Instead, get a backup code for the user to allow them to sign in to their account.

2FA can be vulnerable to several attacks from hackers because a user can accidentally approve access to a request issued by a hacker without acknowledging it. This is because the user may not receive push notifications by the app notifying them of what is being approved.

To fix the "Verification Required" issue, you can update or change your payment method. But sometimes, you might be unable to change your payment method. In this, you can redeem a gift card and use the balance to pay for any unpaid orders.

The message most likely shows a reCAPTCHA. To confirm that you're a person and not a robot, solve the reCAPTCHA. After you solve it, the message goes away, and you can use Google again.

Sign in to the Admin Console. Go to Security > Authentication > 2 step verification. Select the new organizational unit. Uncheck the box beside Allow users to have access to the 2 step verification.
