What happens if I transfer Pokémon to Professor? ›

As you catch more Pokémon, you may transfer some of them to Professor Willow to free up your Pokémon storage. You'll receive Candy in exchange for transferring a Pokémon, but be careful: you can't get Pokémon back after you've transferred them.

Short Answer: Why You Can't Transfer

It might be because the Pokemon is tagged as a favorite, part of a battle party, or a Buddy Pokemon. Also, Mythical Pokemon usually can't be transferred. To fix this, un-favorite the Pokemon, remove it from any battle parties, and switch your Buddy Pokemon if necessary.

A common strategy is to identify the singular Pokemon with the highest stats (like CP and IV) and keep only the strongest and the shinies while transferring all the rest. This results in a backpack full of candy, allowing trainers to easily evolve the strongest Pokemon of the day and boost its CP sky-high.

Transferring a Pokemon is the equivalent to releasing a Pokemon, and doing so will net Pokemon GO players a Candy or two. Since the Pokemon Storage can get filled up fairly quickly, it's not a bad idea to Transfer an Event Pokemon when the time calls for it.

If for whatever reason you don't want a dozen or so Zubat hanging out in your Pokémon box, you can always transfer them to Professor Oak for candies. Unlike how they work Pokémon Go, the candies you receive aren't used to evolve your Pokémon (that's still done the traditional way with experience points).

Note: The Pokémon may become lost and cannot be recovered, as uninstalling and reinstalling the app would cause the transfer process to be stuck in limbo.

Because we cannot predict a Pokémon's move set before evolving it, you should evolve a Pokémon and confirm it has the moves you want before investing your hard-earned Stardust into it. If you evolve first and get a bad/unwanted move set, you'll at least have only used Candies and no Stardust.

After receiving Pokémon, tap Pokémon > Search > Detailed Settings > Most recent game > Pokémon GO icon to display only those Pokémon transferred from Pokémon GO.

Basically the better the cp on the lower thing you are evolving the higher the cp on the evolved and the less stardust and candies you have to spend to get maxed. Basically save your candies and stardust until you find a higher level I'd say 3/4 full cp at least before even evolve.
