The firewall applies traffic shaping settings to traffic that doesn't match any traffic shaping policy.
- To configure traffic shaping settings, go to System services > Traffic shaping settings.
- To see bandwidth usage based on traffic priority, click Show bandwidth usage next to Apply.
Note
Traffic shaping settings: These only apply to outgoing traffic the firewall forwards to the WAN zone.
Traffic shaping policies: You can apply these to incoming and outgoing traffic forwarded by the firewall.
Note
The firewall shows the traffic shaping values in kilobytes per second (KBps). Internet speed tests show their values in kilobits per second (kbps).
1 kilobyte = 8 kilobits. You must make the conversion when you compare the firewall's traffic shaping values with the speed test values.
Traffic shaping (QoS) settings
You can specify the traffic shaping settings as follows:
- Total available WAN bandwidth: Enter the total bandwidth available from ISPs on all the WAN links of the firewall.

Optimize for real-time (VoIP):
- Disable: Applies the guaranteed traffic shaping policies first. Prioritizes real-time traffic only for the remaining bandwidth.
- Enable: Always prioritizes real-time traffic, such as VoIP and streaming media.

Enforce guaranteed bandwidth:
- Disable: The firewall doesn't guarantee bandwidth to traffic that doesn't match any traffic shaping policy. The traffic only gets what's available.

Enable: The firewall enforces the default settings for traffic that doesn't match a policy. Specify the settings under Default policy:
- Guarantee: Minimum bandwidth available to outgoing WAN traffic.
- Limit: Maximum bandwidth available to outgoing WAN traffic.
- Priority: Set from 1 (highest) to 7 (lowest).
Traffic shaping policies
You can configure policies for users, firewall rules, web traffic, and applications. Go to System services > Traffic shaping.
