Tower of Doom is a Drop Tower built by Swiss manufacturer Intamin currently located at Elitch Gardens in Denver, Colorado, USA. The ride first opened in 1997.
History
In 1997, Tower of Doom opened to guests.[1]
Tower of Doom was closed down in June 2007 when a 13-year-old girl had both of her feet cut off by a cable on the defunct Superman: Tower of Power at Kentucky Kingdom.[2]
At the top, riders hear Lex Luthor (Fred Tatiascore)'s voice saying "Today is your lucky day; today your life changes forever. And this may very well be the highest point of your insignificant existence!", laughing evilly, and then a brief period of silence before they drop.
It is the steepest roller coaster in the world with a vertical drop of 121.5 degrees. The TMNT Shellraiser has the same layout as Takabisha at Fuji-Q Highland in Japan, a previous record holder for world's steepest roller coaster.
And now onto serious business – a staggering 255 foot drop which you'll take at 85 mph, making this one of the longest and fastest drops in the world. But wait a second, isn't this ride only 235 feet tall? That's right, the first drop takes you down below the dirt into a dark underground tunnel!
Touch the sky on one of the UK's tallest roller coasters
The track blends with the colour of the sky, so riders feel like they're at one with the clouds. At 205 ft high, the roller coaster flies slowly over the peak of the top hat.
Bert gets an adrenaline rush from the second tallest coaster in the world. The Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio is the second tallest roller coaster in the world. The entire ride only lasts 17 seconds and reaches a top speed of 120 mph!
During Superman/Batman's initial arc, Public Enemies, he tries to frame Superman and Batman, but ultimately goes insane and his presidency ends. From that point until The New 52, Lex goes back to being a criminal mastermind.
Before another thought can enter your brain, the ride releases and you drop -- you plunge -- you are completely emptied into a free fall of 20 stories in 3.5 seconds, reaching frenetic speeds of up to 60 miles per hour before the brakes kick in and – did that really happen? – you're at the bottom and back to normal.
This dynamic coaster features two launches, propelling guests from 0 to 50 mph in 2 seconds and from 40 to 70 mph in 2.4 seconds. By late February 2021, construction walls around the attraction area were dismantled, offering guests better views.
