Top tips to help you beat the Ticketmaster queue and secure in-demand tickets (2024)

Thousands of Irish music fans will be logging on to Ticketmaster this week in the hopes of securing tickets to two of this summer's biggest concerts.

On Monday it was announced that legendary Australian rock group AC/DC would play Croke Park on Saturday 17 August, while country music superstar Shania Twain also confirmed a gig at Dublin's Malahide Castle on Friday 29 June as part of the singer's Queen of Me tour.

Tickets for Twain's Dublin gig will go on sale this Thursday at 9am on Ticketmaster, with tickets for AC/DC's Croke Park concert set to go on sale the following day, Friday, also at 9am from Ticketmaster, with demand for tickets to both shows expected to be high.

That means music fans face an anxious wait on Ticketmaster this week as they attempt to secure tickets to either or both gigs.

As we have seen in the past, many people are often left bitterly disappointed after missing out on tickets to an in-demand concert so we have put together the following tips to give you the best chance of bagging those coveted tickets on Thursday and Friday morning.

Create an account in advance of buying tickets

If you don’t already have a Ticketmaster account, create one before general on sale tickets are released. Go to Ticketmaster.ie now and get your account set up with all your correct billing and delivery information so that you have this information already stored to double-check you’re happy with your purchase and the cost.

It is also important to have your password handy or reset it in advance so you don't want to waste precious seconds filling out your email and verifying it while all the good seats are getting taken.

Log in early

On the day of the ticket sale, the best practice is to get onto Ticketmaster ten minutes before the tickets are released, then refresh the page 10 seconds before the release time to improve your chances of getting to the front of the queue.

Staying on the page before the sale doesn’t put you into a queue, and the page will need to refresh when tickets are released which might slow you down.

So for example, if tickets go on sale at 9am on a Thursday morning, jump on the Ticketmaster site at 8:50am, then refresh the page 10 seconds before 9am.

Make sure you’re using a steady internet connection

Having a steady internet connection is vital as if you lose connection, even for a second, you might have to start the booking process all over again and may find yourself at the back of the queue.

If you’re using a mobile, you may want to try using wifi rather than 4G/5G just in case you lose signal.

Log onto Ticketmaster in one browser window only

In the past, it was good practice to use as many devices, windows and tabs to try and buy tickets off Ticketmaster, all of them competing with each other in the queue.

However that is no longer the case and logging on to Ticketmaster in multiple windows is now likely to hinder your chance of getting tickets.

That is because the Ticketmaster website will only allow you to make one booking at a time, and attempting to buy tickets through multiple windows increases your chances of Ticketmaster assuming you’re a bot and kicking you out of the queue.

Never refresh the Ticketmaster queue page

While it may be tempting, it's vital that you do not refresh the Ticketmaster page while you’re in the queue.

When the general tickets go on sale and you are added to the queue, your spot will be automatically updated.

If you make the mistake of refreshing the page, you may lose your place and be kicked to the back of the queue.

When you finally get to the front of the queue, you’ll hear a notification bell (turn up the volume of your computer or phone to make sure you don’t miss it – especially if you have to step away). Your spot will be held for 10 minutes.
