How fast can an electric scooter go?
What is fast? Well...it depends doesn't it...on the vehicle in question, and where you travel. A lot of today's electric kick scooters do 25 mph (40 kph). In a car, that feels relatively slow, on a bike downhill f.e. it feels significantly faster. On a skateboard...I would probably wet myself. But on an electric kick scooter, I have the handlebar, which gives a sense of security, so I dare. But ask me to step on a skateboard and go 25 mph downhill, I would tell you to go somewhere really dark. In any case, to fall or hit someone or something, at 25 mph is not recommendable, whether it is on a bike, skateboard, or a powerful electric scooter. So for the sake of this article's relevance, we think 20 mph (32 kph) and above is fast for electric kick scooters especially as they are used a lot in urban areas where you have to consider other road users such as pedestrians, bikes, and cars.
What to consider when buying a fast electric scooter
It seems top speeds on electric scooters are going up, and where is the limit one asks? In reality, unless you are about to set some world record, how fast do you really want to go on one of these devices? It baffles me to see people use e scooters without any protective gear. Not even a helmet! These are not toys but proper speed scooters, and speed can be dangerous if not respected. The same people would never ski or snowboard without a proper helmet, because of the risks going down a mountain entails. And remember, the snow can add as a dampener if you tumble whilst skiing, whereas the tarmac won't. Protective gear, as you would use if you rode a motorcycle or a mountain bike downhill is a smart investment. Some people ride e scooters with a bike helmet which is better than nothing. But if you went on a moped or a regular scooter that does 30+mph... would you do the same? For some of these high speed scooters, nothing but a full face helmet is recommended. Brakes, tires, suspension, and overall build quality might be more important than top speed, and also the durability of the lithium battery if you plan on going full tilt all the time. And last but not least, your style of riding, and where you ride. Are you considerate, or do you fall into the "hooligan" category? However, if you want to be an off road "hooligan", then check this article on the best off road scooters:
Fastest Electric Scooters by MPH/KPH
So which are the options out there to be considered if you do have a need for speed? Here's our top list.
60 Mph Electric Scooters
Stepping on a 60+mph (96+kph) e scooter, there are a few things to consider. Generally speaking, when going very fast, you want stiffer suspension and be closer to the ground for maximum stability as well as having great brakes and tires. Going flat out on one of these, you need to keep in mind that tiny steering movements have a very big impact and you need to know how to brake properly using your body position and knees to your advantage. Lean backward slightly, as if you are about to sit down and bend your knees. Never ride with your feet parallel but instead like you would a snowboard. One foot in front of the other for maximum balance and control. Consider yourself warned!

The NAMI Burn E2 is probably on manys wish lists, yet the asking price and its size might be food for thought. Too much too big. But you need not worry as Nami has provided an excellent option to enjoy the top quality they so famously deliver.
The Klima is a fast and strong option with dual 1000W motors able to reach a top speed of 42 mph (68 kph). The torque and acceleration are best in class taking just under 5 seconds to reach 30 mph (48 kph) from a standstill. Reaching those performance figures you typically have to look at bigger and much more expensive scooters.
It is also not as heavy weighing in at 79 lbs (36 kg). Not exactly lightweight but possible to fold and lift into the trunk of your car.
Another attention to detail is the excellent thumb throttle. Set to perfection with the mapping of the 40A sine wave controllers you can accelerate without risking a whiplash injury. Keeping it steady at a lower speed is also easy.
Two battery versions are available. 25Ah/30Ah respectively with the bigger battery option named the MAX. The range is 50/60 miles (80/96 km) respectively.
Braking is equally important if you go at these speeds and the Klimas fully hydraulic dual Logan piston 160 mm rotor disc brakes together with regen braking are also best in class. It comes to a complete stop from 15 mph (24 kph) in only 9.4 feet (2.8m). This is better than many other more expensive scooters.
The ride quality is also top of the line with a fully adjustable dual coil shock suspension system and 10 inch pneumatic tires. Riding over gravel and rough terrain is very much on the menu. Ergonomically it is also comfortable even if you are a taller rider. It has a 42 inch (132 cm) tall stem which means you don't have to reach down for it.
A big smartphone sized IP65 rated display sits at the center of the co*ckpit. It is an updated improved version that has better visibility in direct sunlight. All the usual info needed is displayed. Mode and light settings, controller temperature, battery status, settings to adjust front and rear motor power, USB port, and so on.
Plenty of lights with a 2000 lumen front light, rear LED strip doubling as brake light, and turn signals. To make sure people will hear you coming it has a loud motorcycle style horn.
The max weight is 265 lbs (120 kg) and with an IP55 rating, the Klima is a top choice and one of the best scooters in its price range at the time of writing.
PROS
- Incredible ride quality
- Best in class acceleration
- Great lighting package
CONS
- No deck latch when folding
"I've been riding for a week now, and really can't get enough. It's such a fun and capable scooter--easy to maneuver, rock solid at speed, and takes big bumps like a champ. A word of advice is to make sure you customize the suspension to your specific needs, taking into consideration your weight, riding style and terrain. A few cycles of tweak-ride-tweak goes a long way. Had a small issue with the brake sensor (as a few others have) and the folks at Fluidfreeride were immediately helpful, sending me a replacement sensor once we determined that it was a sensor issue. Highly recommend the Klima and Fluidfreeride.."

A definite favorite amongst scooter enthusiasts. The Mantis fluid Edition seems to tick a lot of boxes, which is something the competition has not yet refined to the same effect it would seem. Looking at performance, speed, ride quality, and the asking price, it is a very good package. It comes with two battery options. Difference is the battery capacity, 60V 18,2Ah/60V 24,5Ah respectively, which affects mile range but not the 40 mph (64 kph) top speed when using the turbo button. And that makes this a seriously fast electric scooter. The Mantis fluid Edition is equipped with dual fully hydraulic disc brakes for maximum stopping power.
The Mantis V2 is powered by dual 1000W/3000W peak power engine and you can choose to use either single or dual mode, depending on if you want to go at max speed or prefer a little longer range. 30+/45+ miles (48+/ 72+ km) range for the 18.2/24.5 version in eco mode, is a very good distance and it will still do 30 mph (48 kph)!
It has a very good front and rear spring arm suspension and combined with air filled 10 inch tires provides a very smooth ride and will allow for cruising on dirt or gravel trails in the forest, as well as the odd jump over curbs or other obstacles, even if it's not an outright off road toy.
Solidly put together, with high quality, easy to use and ride makes the Mantis one of the best electric scooters for commuters as well as fun seeking weekend adventurers.
PROS
- Multiple gear modes
- Very long range
- Ride on any terrain
CONS
- Handlebars does not fold
"mantis Scooter
This is a machine. If you get one of these make sure you get yourself protected. Riding one of these without a helmet or elbow and knee pads is like riding a Harley wearing flip flops. This is not only for the young adult. I am 69 years old and in good shape. I am using muscles I have not used so I get a little sore after a 10 mile run.
Well built. Fast. Hold on when you hit the turbo button.
When you are stuck in the house and the only option to move around is a car or walking, nice to jump on the scooter and let it take you where ever you want. Couple of things you have to do yourself. Get a mirror. Not knowing what is behind you is uncomfortable. Ear plugs, for the wind noise. Clear glasses for night time. All in all a great purchase."

Single motor on a fastest list is probably not what you expect to find but the fluid Vista manages just that. This is a rear wheel driven 1000W/1800Wpeak power motor with a top speed of 31 mph (50 kph), strong acceleration, and even strong uphill. 10% inclines are easily dealt with. Intended as a low priced, low maintenance everyday commuter that is easy and fun to ride the Vistas 60V 14.5Ah battery will be good for 45 miles (72 km) of range in eco mode. Keeping it practical, the choice of solid tires means you never run a risk of flats but many times compromise the ride quality. But these tires are less rigid than other similar ones usually are. Combine this with the front and rear adjustable spring suspension with adjustable rebound dampening and you have a magnificent solution to make those solid tires work wonders. The ergonomics are also attended to with a very wide deck measuring 17,5 x 9,0 inches (44,5 x 23 cm) and a 39 inch (100 cm) tall stem with wide handlebars perfect for taller riders. The brakes are also set up for everyday convenience rather than massive bite. They are very effective yet smoother than some others we have tried. The front drum brake, rear disc brake, and regen brake are well dialed in right out of the box. A very nice co*ckpit is another welcome feature with a big center display showing all the needed info such as various ride modes, an included App that lets you customize your riding profile, zero start options, acceleration settings, etc. The throttle is thumb operated. Such a scooter needs good lights and the Vista does not disappoint. A bright forward light, turn signals, brake light, and lateral swag lights. The weight is 60 lbs (27 kg). Possible to carry even if not for long distances. The stem and handlebars fold which helps with storage. This is a fun and comfortable e scooter with good performance. As such it is not an expensive scooter either. very practical it is one of the best choices for en everyday commuter out there now.
PROS
- Never worry about flats
- Low maintence
- Large deck for comfortable riding
CONS
- Somewhat heavy, but still portable
"The scooter is absolutely phenomenal. It's acceleration is perfect for intermediate riders in sport mode, and I can say that the suspension allows the solid tires to be a benefit instead of a drawback. The suspension really takes care of most imperfections on whatever you're scooting on. The only con I have is that the app clearly needs a redo. The display, however, takes care of everything that I need on a daily basis so I don't have to deal with the app much."

Weight Limit: 265 lbs | Display: Advanced display with throttle | Battery Position: Under Board |
Let's take a look at the fluid Horizon. If you need a max speed of 25 mph (40 kph) and don't feel like a daredevil, but still looking for a reasonable riding experience at a reasonable price, then this is an option. It comes with a choice of two different battery outputs for longer range options, and we would recommend the bigger 48V 13Ah battery. The smaller one is 48V 10,4Ah. The top speed is the same, but if you will go full tilt a lot of the time, you will want the bigger battery. This scooter is actually one of the few e-scooters that delivers on the promised 25-mile range, (40 km) as tested under real-world circ*mstances. It looks and feels solid, and is built well enough to handle its max speed, which is important. It will not win any drag races though, as it is quite slow up to 8 mph (12,8 kph). So if you are all into that, then maybe this one is a bit too modest getting away from the red light. It comes with an option of a three-mode speed setting to reign in the speed demon in you if needed. The braking system is a combination of a rear drum and regen brake that works fine and is a smooth and well-balanced option. Frankly, anything less than this on a high-speed electric scooter is a reason to opt out if you want to be able to stop properly. Tires are important, especially at these speeds. Air-filled tires are to be preferred as the benefits outweigh the drawbacks of getting a flat. Here we have a combo of both as the front is air-filled whereas the rear tire is solid. That is one of the Horizons cons if you will, as you can feel the back end step out and skid off the centerline under braking, as well as stepping out when cornering if you are not careful. So be aware! But you will never have a rear flat and that is enough for some buyers. A clever choice of a dual hydraulic suspension at the rear compensates for that solid tire and gives a very smooth ride on most surfaces. It weighs 42 lbs (19kg) and has a 265 lbs (120 kg) weight limit.
PROS
- Long Range
- Strong Power to weight ratio
- Very Practical & Foldable
CONS
- Board deck can be a bit limited for some people.
Better than expected
"I did alot of research and bought several different brands and returned all of them except fluid freeride, these scooters out performed my expectations. Faster and more stable than the others.
