Titanium is found in its oxide state mostly. The commercial extraction process of Titanium is called as “Kroll Process” which involves treatment of the ore with chlorine gas to produce titanium tetrachloride. Later, this is purified and reduced to a metallic titanium sponge by reaction with magnesium or sodium. This titanium sponge then undergoes an alloying and melting process at FASTWELL to get the desired quality material.
The process is a bit costly one, since the involvement of labor-intensive procedures. World production of the metal is about 100,000 tons/ year. Titanium (Ti) is well known for its lightness, strength, and good corrosion resistance.
Titanium is a metal which was discovered in 1790 and started to be produced industrially in 1948 after a long period of maturation since its discovery. Because of its bountiful reserves and excellent bio-friendliness, it is a suitable to be used by people. Through research and development this material has developed into great and innovative uses.
