The furniture is actually just for show, though.
If you’ve ever cozied up on the couch or in bed with an episode (or four) of HGTV’s beloved Love It or List It, chances are, you’ve been wowed by the decor more than a few times. And hey, it makes sense. The whole premise of the show is that hosts Hilary Farr and David Visentin create such enticing homes that it’s difficult to make a decision by the end of the episode.
For those who aren’t familiar with the show, however, here’s a brief synopsis: Each episode features a homeowner who isn’t satisfied with their current living situation. That’s when Hilary (who is a home designer) and David (who is a real estate agent) swoop in to save the day. Where David sets out to find a new home with all of the homeowner’s requests in mind, Hilary takes it upon herself to renovate the original house to see if it’s possible to make a fit without actually moving. Ultimately, it’s up to the homeowner in the end.
While decisions vary from episode to episode; from moving to staying; what always remains the same is the fact that Hilary knows how to outfit a house with gorgeous furniture. But fans can’t help but wonder: Do the homeowners actually get to keep everything? And who buys the furniture in the first place?

While there hasn’t been an official release on the matter, there’s a popular HGTV subreddit that discusses the very topic.
“I read that the furniture is staging and the clients do not get to keep it. Maybe they use some of the [client’s] furniture, if they like it,” Redditor RickWest495 wrote.
That's pretty accurate, according to News & Record. An HGTV rep reportedly told the website: “The homeowners always pay for the renovation and they are given the opportunity to purchase the furnishings and décor used for the staging. What they don’t purchase is removed from the home."
