World’s biggest coffee producing countries
As coffee shops and cute cafés can be found on every corner worldwide, it is not a surprise that coffee is the world's second most traded commodity (after oil). Coffee beans that during the carefully made process turn into a hot (or cold) drink were always cherished by society.
The top-producing countries each produce billions of kilograms of coffee beans that find their way to the coffee-lovers, and according to the International Coffee Organization statistics, in 2020, there were 165 053 000 bags of 60kg produced, while world coffee exports amounted to 9.69 million bags in October 2022 and every year the production is increasing based on the demand.

Although coffee is produced all around the world, you’ll find that most of it comes from just a few countries. Brazil, Colombia, Vietnam, and Indonesia are the largest producers in the world, but that does not mean that smaller producing countries don’t have high-quality coffee.
Brazil
Brazil is well-known for producing coffee and its good geo position just adds to it. It is by far the leading producer of coffee in the world with over 50 million bags. In 2022, the yield of coffee in Brazil amounted to approximately 27.4 bags (of 60 kilograms) per hectare, up from 26.4 bags per hectare in the preceding year. It is estimated that by the end of 2022, production will exceed 60 million bags per year!
Coffee is one of Brazil’s biggest exports, and the Arabica variety makes up most of the exported beans, up to 70%.
Vietnam
These days Vietnam is the second largest producer of coffee in the world. Although Vietnamese people still prefer tea over coffee, Robusta beans have found their way to being the most produced variety in Vietnam, making up to an enormous 95% out of all coffee produced!
Roast coffee was the largest revenue source in the coffee market in Vietnam in 2021, accounting for around 5 billion USD.
Colombia
Colombia has a long history of producing coffee and is responsible for producing some of the finest Arabica beans in the world. They are often used to make high-end specialty blends and are quite profitable for growers. At the beginning of 2022, Colombia exported more than 1 million bags, each weighing 60kg.
Indonesia
Indonesian first coffee plantations were established in Java back in the 1600s, which made this country the first coffee producing nation outside of Arabia and Africa. Today, Indonesia is in the top 10 countries that produce the finest Arabica and Robusta beans.
The beginning of 2022 started well for Indonesia, as they exported around 640 000 bags of coffee.
